Can anyone tell me if they have problems running 15x7.5 MiMs ET13 or ET25 catching the track rod ends?

Do I need spacers?

Image

The wheels this one is ET13 but I have two at ET25 which do the same

Image

As you can see they touch the inside of the rim and will not spin freely.

This is a brand new E30 Q-drive (ECP) tie rod assembly in a 51mm strut, only difference is its an E46 rack but can't see why I am getting this problem? :?

MIM1900's are for chromies, it's the rule :)

I can recall people sometimes having probs with ATS cups with this same issue and normally a spacer helps it, but ET13 already has them sat pretty far out.

Sorry, I'm not actually much use :D

cheers Ant but am baffled on the tie rod thingy

Oh and they need puttingback to silver obviously!

EDIT: Cheers Lee, I can use the ET25 on the front, rear is shitty drums so shouldn't have the problem (not that I have tried)

I used to have et13 mim 1900s and didn't have any problems with the track rod ends. iirc they were close but didn't rub.

No idea of the manufacturer of the track rod ends, sorry. It's just a standard manual e30 rack, here's a pic of it but it's probably not much use:

These are awesome rims on the E30, They just suit it down to the ground!

However, I'm completely stumped as to what to do regards the rod end issue.... :(

@ Clarko, thanks but yeah not really any use tbh

Anyone got any ideas for me?

Could it just be that they need winding in???

If the trackrods are too far out then that might be enough to make them touch?

Have you changed the E46 track control arms for the e30 ones?

hey mate

i had et25 1900's on a facelift and then put them on to a early chromie (1985 323) and both cars were absolutely fine. but these were cars with only a small drop on them and no non-standard parts near the axle or suspension.

sorry not to be any more help.

cheers,
rich

Thats cool I think the tie rods want winding in a bit its all it can be?

I wound them so that the wheels pointed straight but I'm just hoping that winding them doesn't cause them to toe in a bit

thanks for the comments dudes

Had no probs here either. Had some cheapo MiM copies many moons ago that needed a small spacer to clear the front caliper, but no other suspension related issues, this was with a -60 and -40 drop.

Adjusting the tie rod ends won't do anything. Think about the extreme angles they achieve under full lock and they won't rub. A few mil of adjustment will do nothing bar throw the toe out of whack. Also are you saying you did it by eye? You should get it properly aligned.

Have you checked to see if they are buckled at all? Might be worth trying genuine track rod ends too. Aren't Q drive quite poor quality?

I too had a set of 15x7inch 1900s (et13) on my touring with an e46 rack and no spacers never rubbed or anything.
One pair were stamped made in england and one were made in italy both were fine.
If the tie rods have been just fitted are they fully seated in their tapers (fully torqued).
You could also try fitting the old worn tie rods to see if their different.

Not had chance to do anything about this yesterday sadly

Thanks for the responses:

@ ross_jsy - I did them by eye because the car has no engine or gear box in it I can't take it anywhere just now. If Q-Drive are shyte quality then thats fair enough but they seemed ok to me to be fair? Also I know you can do the brianmoooore string round the car technique but looking at the car they look pretty good by eye (not enough to make a difference on the tie rods?)

@sean_318i - thanks for the info, sadly I don't have any original tie rods because I gave them to DanThe with the old manual rack for the quick rack project in the group buy :(

@RM2186 - I'm sure they aren't replicas, I got them off blacke30indy on here and they wear all the markings of genuine items but I could be wrong so not ruling it out

Wheels aren't buckled, I need about 3mm to clear realistically....

Does anyone know the torque settings for the tie rod ends please

By torqued correctly I just meant are the bolts tightned and not just done up finger tight for moving the car around the yard etc.
But as you ask Haynes states 37Nm for track rod end to steering arm nut.

The adjustment won't make a difference anyway as the end will always be stationary to the rim as it were. Was just a suggestion, didn't realize you weren't driving it.

As for the Q-Drive, don't quote me on that. We don't get brands like that over here but I have heard some bad things. It could be they are a few mil out here and there causing the problems was the only thing I was thinking.

Do they look right or could they benefit from winding in? They are tightened up (not finger tight).

Pic of the tie rods I took the other day. still not had chance to do anything yet though :o:

I'm pretty sure I've had the same problem but I can't exactly remember what car or circumstances... I've got many sets of ET13 MiMs and many E30s, I seem to remember it might be something to do with the struts of the smaller size strut. My MiM's cleared fine on the bigger struts (325i, 318is, touring) with no spacers but didn't on my 318i saloon with the smaller struts. My memory is hazy...

I've had no luck with the ET25 MiM 1900s, they spokes clash against the brake calipers, front and back I think. I had to use spacers to get them clear.

Interesting this??

Something to think about is if you do have the smaller strut are you using the non vented disc?
If so does the wheel not sit out as far as it would with a vented disc.
I wouldn't think so, however as mentioned before plenty of people have these on E30 ( ET13) already without problems.
E30less again.
