engine advice/misfire?

Annoying one this,intermittent misfire,noticed it first the other day when i was being a boy racer and put my foot to the metal,engine just died,it kinda just missed a heartbeat then instantly picked up again,and was off like a rocket.Done it a couple of times since but seems to be random and erratic,no real ryhme or reason to it.I have checked for air leaks,exhaust airmass sensor,leads,plugs,havent checked the cap,yet,anyone any ideas,dodgy fuel supply/injectors......?cheers.nick

Sorry to bump in here but interested to know what is the cause if revs drop to 0 instantly as mine does this occasionally but only when cold.

Thanks willi,yep drops to zero,the speedo and rev counter [not the water or fuel gauges]have also intermitently stopped working[regardless of whether the engine misfires or not] but then start up again the next day fine,is this related or just coincidence?I'll source a main relay.thank you for your help,electrics are not my bag at all.cheers.nick
