I just started looking at m52 swaps as this car just happened into my lap tonight. 1996 528, good candidate for a swap into an e30 or not? From what I have found online, this should be a single vanos lump, which is preferred for the e30s, right? Anything else I should keep an eye out for?

If its a single vanos engine it will be e30 friendly yes.... Engine code m52b28
But the m52tu as found in an e46 cannot be used due to it being twin vanos amongst other things.

Engine should be fine as it will be single vanos.
You will still need an E34 sump, oil pickup pipe & disptick tube and you will also need the E36 24v alloy engine mount arms for it to fit the E30 subframe setup.

I think e39 engine blocks have the mounting lugs cast in a different location so it might be worth checking
