Hi, I wonder if anyone can help, I have serious idling problems.

My 325 ticks over too high (although it seems to have fallen recently to about 1100 which is low for me), and if I'm not careful it bunnyhops when I am at low revs, which is extremely annoying.

I think my car has a 320 throttle body, idle control valve (t shaped), air flow meter, and air induction tube, which is a bit thinner than the 325 one (325 engine replaced the original 320), but it all worked fine with the previous 325 engine which was fitted. The tube is split, and I think the idle control valve must be knackered, the plastic bit on top of the air flow meter is loose as my brother tried messing about with it to adjust the tickover. The throttle body is narower than a 325i I compared it against (which had an f shaped idle control valve). Therefore I think I should get the 325 throttle body and hence the rest 325 stuff as I need to replace it anyway, and the engine must be down on power. How much should I be paying for a 325 afm, icv, air induction pipe and throttle body, does anyone have the stuff or might this not be the problem? I have recieved an email from someone offerring me the stuff delivered to Wakefield (near Leeds) for Ԛ£65, but the mail got caught in my Spam filter so he might not still have the parts, and I don't know if he will be offerring any sort of guarantee ON THEM?

One last thing, my car revs at about 3500 when I'm doing about 60-65 mph, is this normal or does it seem too high?

Cheers.

This should be in the tech section mate!

The price of Ԛ£65 sounds OK, you could probably get cheaper getting them seperate, but then you'd have seperate postage.

3500rpm at 60 is a bit high, if your car used to be a 320i, then it's proably got a 4.10 diff, could do with getting a 3.91, or even better a 3.64.

I know! I didn't realise till I'd done it!

I'm going to email the guy tomorrow morning and see if he still has the parts.

I'll look into a new dif, how much will I be looking at for a 3.64, and where from? Will the box be the same as on a 325?

Also I live in Spain with minimal tools, what should it take in hours to fit in a garage -then I will be able to get a rough idea of what they might charge me? I don't know as usually I do everything myself, on the drive - which usually takes ages!

Seeing as your in Spain, I couldn't really say where to get a diff from, but local scrap yards would be the first port of call, I'm not really sure what cars to look for in your country, as they could be different ratio's to the UK, but over here, 3.64 were fitted to a lot of early 325i's.

Fitting the throttle body hose and AFM is very easy, and shouldn't take long at all, changing the diff is a little more work for the home mechanic, but not impossible. I have no ideas of labour rates in your country, so couldn't say!
