Has anyone on here made their own brake set up using 4 pot calipers from another car?

I'm looking at using Corrado G60 discs, some sort of 4 pot calipers and machining my own brackets. Originally I was going for Mercedes W140 calipers (£70/pair) but pad choice is quite limited.

What calipers do people run? Subaru ones are plentiful, but I remember something about them not working somewhere?! I've also heard that Fiat/Peugeot Brembos are rather shitty. There's a nice set of APs of a V6 Clio on ebay just now I keep looking at, but whether they're too big for 280mm discs I can't work out.

People use a caliper off a Mazda. Don't know what it's off or what is required though.

i am running the RX7 turbo 2 4 pot kit with drilled 280 mm discs and race hawk pads on my E30 track car with the 3 litre M3 lump in it.

car is light so more than up to the job and I hae not had issues at all on track with brake fade. pretty cheap conversion too.

see pic:

the bloke who looks after my car has his wilwood 4 pots up for sale with 280 mm discs too if that helps? he was running that set up on his E30 with 15 inch ATS rims. good ET of 15 and 8J rims.

PM if you need any more pics or help.

Nick

I'll possibly pester you at some point, my aim is to get the chassis up to scratch before attempting an M52 (or S50 if funds allow which is unlikely) conversion.

Making brackets isn't a problem, being a machinist :D.

If he's wanting whatever calipers and discs will cost (£200 I guess) then I'd whip them off him :P

FYI, see here and here. Uses Corrado G60 discs on the front. Drawings of the brackets are included. Should be of some help to you. Also search for posts by KeriWMS as he sells excellent E30 WMS brake kits on here.

PDF failure for me for some reason. Tells me it's not a valid link :(.

I've done caliper brackets before so I'll adapt the drawing file I have for them if I can. This was my last shot at it.

They suit Wilwood 6 pot efforts on an Astra VXR.

I've had a look at the WMS and other manufacturers offerings but I reckon I can make my set up with OEM calipers for half the price. Well I think so at least. Mind you, your Alcons are rather nice!

If you can make your own brackets try the scooby ones as there is a big cheap pad choice.

Here is a link so you can check the pad depth do make sure they fit the disks,

and can you do 1 off machining as I need a coupe of sets of caliper brackets made

I'll blame my internet, I've "exceeded my fair use" or some rubbish LOL.

I can do one offs, though I'm not sure on timescales just now, I've quite a lot on at the moment! I think I'll give the Subaru ones a shot, I'm sure they could always be sold on if it doesn't work out.
