m52 belt or chain?

bet you didn't know what question was going to be in here did you haha.

anyway i always thought an m52 would have been chain drive but the for sale ad says he changed the belt on his m52 lump?

is it belt or chain?

He will be on about the serpentine belt that goes round the pas pump, alternator, water pump etc..
The crank to cams is chain driven.

chain but he probably means the auxiliary belt.

My bet is its had new water pump and serpentine belt ect kev, (aux belt).

You are correct in thinking the 24v units are chain driven

ah thought so, that would make sense then. didn't want to say that on his for sale thread. seems a bit steep to me too, i thought a grand was about it imo.

anyway i'm fully going m52 now wayhey decided the day i bought myself the sump/dipstick etc from the 5 series e34 m50. i'm just on the lookout now for a whole car as i reckon that'll be the easiest/cheapest way to progress.

If you were to buy a 328 sport cheap enough you could break it (interior, kit and any other miscellaneous goodies) and possibly break even on the conversion, if not it will only owe you a few quid!

But to give you an idea in bits I payed about....
£350- an excellent engine
£60 - m42 box (it a great 1!)
£130 - danthe plug and play loom (quality+ does exactly what it says on the tin)
£100 - ews gear+ecu (but you'd have this with the engine from a breaker!)
328 aircon rad - (on the breaker)
E28 m5 engine mounts are about 60-70 now
£25 - clio servo (scrappy)

Those are the bigger bits you need for this to be a successes....
The m50 inlet setup I used from my old m50 but you'd pick this up for around £100 ish
Bonus that you have the e34 sump

That one in the for sale section is a rip off to be fair. I paid £500 for essentially the same thing. But with an m50 and an m52 engine instead of 1 m52 with a shagged head gasket and one good one.
