Just picked up a 1990 320i. Seems pretty decent, got a sticky rev counter, stops most of the time at 2.5.
It doesn't respond too well to being thumped or threatened, so any suggestions on how to un-stick it ?
Cheers

Rev counter needle is driven by a gear for some reason, IIRC (or is that the speedo?).
Gear is damaged, has a piece of dirt lodged in the teeth, or a bit of dirt in the actual meter movement.

Cheers. Do you know of any posts on how to get at it ?
One other thing, according to my dodgy rev counter, it idles circa 500rpm, now I'm no expert, but that seems a bit on the low side, what should it tick over at ? Needs a heavy right foot to pull off without looking like a muppet....
Thanks, any general advice on 320i's would be appreciated, new to this BMW lark.

Just noticed that was your first post, so a welcombe to the one true E30 zone from the management.
There have been numerous posts about removing and opening the instrument cluster. Try using the search button above this thread to search for "flickering temperature gauge" or "SI board".
Tick over should be 720 -800 RPM on a hot engine, and is not adjustable.
First check with an external rev counter that the idle is actually wrong.

Thanks for that. My first 320, first time on the forum, first time with a spanner in my hand for 15 years - could be interesting !!
