My brother came up for a quick visit yesterday and we went out for a blat.

He works for Lotus and gets to take cars home for the weekend. This one was a press car, so was quite good spec. These are just out in the Auto version here with the flappy paddles. The manuals feel a bit sharper in the delivery.

Not a whole load quicker than the chromie in a straight line, but man the levels of grip as in a different league. Also, after the rock hard B6's on the front of my chromie, this thing was a mazing how well it rides but how compliant the suspension feels.

Sticks like sh1t to a blanket in the twisties and my arse devoured my underwear many times when he was giving it some beans along some country lanes, putting the power down or taking corners at speeds which would have an E30 swapping ends on you.

Here's a few pics I took before we gave it a wash this afternoon.

Got a Lotus dealer just down the road from me, quite often see them on test drives. Had one go past me just as the we hit the 70 section of a DC, and cracked open the throttle - sounded superb.

Quite often walk the dog down to the dealership and have a look round them

Handling they are fantastic, just not overly quick on accelleration or top end. Would consider a good used one, never buy a lotus new, expect possibly the new Esprit thats supposed to be under development.

I checked the 0-60 time and it's 5.6 which is the same times my chromie did at the drag strip, so was right that it didn't feel any quicker in a straight line.

The Supercharged "S" version is a good load quicker according to my bro.

The new esprit will be a while away.

Some may remember I posted up some pics of a black Lexus IS-F a few months back that my brother had been hooning around in. Well the reason Lotus had that was to do some development/ mapping etc on the meaty V8 they have, with the intention the V8 would be used in the next Esprit. However, Lotus being Lotus have decided in their wisdom to avoid using a superb off the shelf V8 and design and build their own, costing god knows how many millions in development costs

For me I am glad that Lotus are producing different models of cars again. They like Aston and Jaguar have a good eye for design.

They sound lovely, too. A pilot in our village owns one. I'm not too fussed on the shape, though, a bit to Jap for my liking.

Don't they use Toyota engines in the Elise?

Elise had the K series stuff in the earlier stuff, honestly can't remember what they use now.

The Evora has a Toyota 3.5 V6 from a Camry & Rav 4, think it's about 270bhp

But Lotus and Toyota are in bed together Simon.

All new elises use a toyota engine now. As Lee said the early ones used different powered K series engines. We built a fair few for Lotus.

I like the interior sound and handling of the Evora, just not as quick as you expect. True about the 'S' gives it the power is deserves. I am waiting for Lotus to create a car that actually gives the power that the chasis suspension etc are capable of, even the elise can be exploited in such a way, Lotus cars can always handle more power than they are given.

Lotus- Simply the finest handing cars ever produced.
