What route does the original coax wire take from the boot to the radio? At some point some numpty has fitted a crap aftermarket power antenna with a pre-wired coax, and run this to the back of the radio. I want to use the original coax, but I cant find it anywhere behind the radio or in the glovebox. It runs from the boot, through the rubber grommet, and then up the C pillar along the roof...where does it come down from? Or has this been re-routed?
Thanks

I'm not 100% sure, but I think my coax runs through the grommet then down to the drivers side sill (passenger side in UK) under the carpet to surface again near the accessory socket and cross behind the dash to the stereo.
These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....

Saloon and current cabbie of mine were both arranged in the same way, coax cable ran from the n/s rear wing, through the rear bulkhead, across the rear seat pan, then under the carpet on top of the transmission tunnel, emerging into view by the handbrake, then up to the radio....
Cable comes down the n/s A pillar on a touring.....

All saloons/cabbies have the power ariel in the n/s rear wing,a practice followed by E28 as well,so did the supplying dealer drill the wing/fit the ariel?ed325i wrote:The dealers had to fit all the wiring for the radio etc so it depends on the person fitting it, we always put it down the inner sill and any big power cables for amps etc went down the middle.

I have a pdf. of the dealer instructions for fitting the aerial, and these give the location of the aerial 50mm over from the back corner of the boot lid aperture, and 25mm in, with the cables running along the LH sill.
Yes they did.daimlerman wrote:All saloons/cabbies have the power ariel in the n/s rear wing,a practice followed by E28 as well,so did the supplying dealer drill the wing/fit the ariel?ed325i wrote:The dealers had to fit all the wiring for the radio etc so it depends on the person fitting it, we always put it down the inner sill and any big power cables for amps etc went down the middle.

thanks for your replies guys. Not sure what the previous owner was smoking at the time, but they wired in a new aerial wire from the aftermarket antenna to the radio, and re-routed the original cable up the C pillar, into the headlining, where it was simply chopped!
Would be interesting to see that pdf brian, where do you get such information from?

A few years ago, a member (sorry, can't remember who, but many thanks) sent me a CD through the post, containing around 80 pdfs of dealer fitting instructions.CHR1S1990 wrote: Would be interesting to see that pdf brian, where do you get such information from?
I've asked about hosting them on the zone for all to access, but apparently it can't be done.
I can email copies of individual instructions to anyone who PMs me an email address (not too many, please), although some of them are too big to email, and you can possibly post them on here, if your computer skills are better than mine, which will be most of you.
