It's nearly time for 4 new tyres.
Had 4 Michelins on when I bought the car, then done nearly 40,000 miles on a set of Hankooks.
Any thoughts about what brands are good/bad/indifferent in terms of grip, noise, longevity, etc. for ordinary road use.
The size is 195/65R14 and curently H rated as per spec in the Owner's Manual

Bridgestone potenza's (if they do that size) aren't the best as they have quite low tread on the edges.. I wouldn't bother if your cars lowered

all depends on your budget, i have avon ZV3 and never had a problem, get about 30-35k out of a set, going to get ZV5's next to see if they are slightly better in the wet.

In the 196/65 14 size there aren't many "high quality" tryes still being made.

I've got 4 Hankooks in this size on mine and I'm happy with them (particularly for road noise and wet grip levels) but I get the feeling that you weren't ?

To get anything better maybe you need to go for a V rated tyre which I think are now only available in Bridgestone Potenzas (which someona has already said aren't so good) or the Toyo CF1

I would have a look here:

I have heard good things about Nexen Tyres and in your size are only £62.80 each fully fitted. Can get Khumo's for £77.10, michellin £114.20

Can get Yokomaha A.Drive for £70.42 each which is a very good price, Toyo CF1 are £71.05 either of the above is probably your best option.

I've got Falken Ziex ZE 912's fitted to my Touring and can't complain - especially for the price I paid (Camskill)

40,000 on hankooks, I'd be buying those!

You ain't getting track car performance on a 65 profile are you!

no brainer at £47.00 per corner from camskill
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Tyres/Brakes are the most important things on a vehicle and could potentially save your life or someone elses.

The contact patch of the tyres with the road/track pert tyre are not very big.

Best to buy the best tyres you can afford.

One day you might regret skimping?

Cheap tyres are fine in the dry or in snow but when its wet, quality tyres make such a huge difference and being in the UK its worth the extra money. Uniroyal rainexpert are only about £75.00 a corner fitted which isn't bad, never actually run them so no idea on how durable they are.

Thanks for your input guys. That's given me something to think about.

Wasn't unhappy with the Hankooks, Clipper, far from it. Just wanted to see what other folks opinions were on the subject.

Won't be going for Michelins, though. 50% more expensive than anything else, but I don't believe they are 50% better. Most of that goes into advertising. Who said I was cynical!

Black Circles has an offer on Yoko A.Drives at the mo. 165/65 R14 in T speed rating at £49.25. Used 'em before and that's a lot of tyre for Hankook money.

for one, you can have them for 42.80 delivered plus £10 to fit balance and dispose of the old ones means you are paying an extra £10 per tyre and they are rubbish.

http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s142p0

there much better options from toyo, khumo, hankook and falken and uniroyal for between 45-50 delivered
