Hi guys
Driving to work this morning, and i noticed that my heater blower has stopped working. My 1-3 function is not working, so its either off or on full(4)? I checked the fuses and the relays and they all seem fine???
I got a feeling that it could be the switch it self or a losse conection some where?
You guys have any ideas???
Any feedback would be much appriciated

if i remember rightly, there is a resistor pack on the heater fan that will cause this problem, its accessable from the front bulkhead.

I got my replacement one from a scrap yard. you might not need to replace it, sometimes just taking it out and giving the contacts a clean will fix the problem.SilverShadow wrote:Do i need to replace the resistor? where can i get 1 from?

It could be a pain in the butt to do, as you can only get to from the engine bay, you need to take off the plastic cover, as if you where getting to the wiper connecting arm.

All the E30 heater resistor packs that I've ever had occasion to hunt out have been on the left side of the heater housing, just in front of the water valve, and accesible by removing the panel to the right of the glovebox.
Brown plastic assembly with wires connected to it that just unclips and pulls out.

I had a similar problem - all or nothing blower. I tackled mine at the same time I did the wiper motor as I had the bulkhead off. My resistor (1989 Sport) is situated in the front of the blower fan. The top of the blower cowl is held together by a wrap round metal strap. Unclip this and lift the top half of the cowl. The resitor points down in the centre of the blower body and is a push fit. In truth I never even took mine out. I squirted loads of lubricant into the centre spindles of the the two fan rotors while they were running. I tried silicon spray first but then WD40. The latter worked the best although it smelt inside the car for about a week. The fans were obviously sticking and therefore the voltage reduction applied by the resistor was insufficient to turn them. The oil freed everything up and also got rid of the squeak/squeal that was there before. Everything on mine has been working 100% ever since - did this about March. Wiper motor repair has also held up. Hope this helps!

Its easier to get at i from the inside, under the glover box, all u have to do is pull on some wires (near the heater valve) and it pops out and its a brown plastic and metal box thing with coil thingy inside.

Hey Guys
I pulled out the blower fan and motor last night, just to make sure, is it the 2x red coloured resistors, which look like springs, that I need to clean? (I was thinking in using carb cleaner and then WD40?)
Cheers

Think you're getting your wires a bit crossed here.
They won't respond to cleaning. - They are dead!

I got a price of about Ԛ£27 plus the dreaded vat from my local main dealer so I would expect it to be a fair bit cheaper from a braker. Just my opinion but I would go for a new one, if you get one from a braker who's to say how long it would last once fitted ?

They are known to fail occassionally, but I've never come across a dud one. Wouldn't expect it to cost very much at all at a scrappy. It's the kind of part that tends to fall into the bottom of my toolbox.Grantley wrote:I got a price of about Ԛ£27 plus the dreaded vat from my local main dealer so I would expect it to be a fair bit cheaper from a braker. Pics are difficult to make out, but I think these are pictures of the interference suppressor chokes on the motor!
