My Air Conditioner is Haunted !

My air conditioner on E30 325i Auto, When switched on works fine. After many hours of use specially in warm weather suddenly cuts off by itself. No power for the blower or compressor. Totally dead.

After 10 or 15 minutes interval it comes back live as if nothing wrong.

this switching on and off by itself is going on for now one whole month.

Has any one experienced this problem. How did you solve it?

What is even strange is, when the air conditioner power goes off, the power window does not work and I am stuck in a sauna until power comes back by itself.

Could this be a relay problem? Where is it ?

Supplies to air con and windows are both controlled by unloader relays, but by two different ones. Electric mirrors are also controlled by these, so check if they work when the windows/aircon are playing up.
Only common link between these relays, is a black/green wire that goes to the smallest terminal on the starter motor.
As a check, DISCONNECT this wire from the motor and earth it to the car body or engine block.
This is not a fault I've come across before - I'm only guessing.

Brian my M8, you are spot on right

I drove my car in sweltering heat with two lovely ladies for over an hour with no air con and the bloody power windows stuck , It was a virutal sauna

Finally I decided to check the cable like you said, true to your word the green/black cable going to the smallest terminal of the starter was loose. God knows how it was left loose by the mechanics, I tightend it hard and Walaa now it works fine.
