I'm trying to refit headlamp wipers to my car. They were removed before I got it and now I want to put them back on.
I'm stuck with the headlamp rings and need someone to go out and look at theirs for me......
2 rings have 3 short black pegs (or stops) and 2 have longer pegs.
the trouble is I have all 4 rings off and can't work out which ones gop where. They are numbered 1-4, but the rings had no stops on them (which I've refitted) but might have fited the short pegs to the wrong rings.
It would be great if someone could post like this:
O/S outer: ring3, short pegs...etc.....
O/S inner..........
thanks guys.
Have you got headlamp wipers?

Just been out the the car park - sun is shining so its nice to get away from my desk
Ok - the long pegs go on the outer lens and the short ones go on the inner main-beam light..... This is because the ring sits further back on the outer light. Can't see the numbers on the rings with them on the car though.
On each ring there's 2 pegs closer together and the third one is a bit further away - difficult to explain - I'll come back with a picture.....

thanks mate. I've been looking at the pics of cars in the pics section(of course)
It's really hard to see those bloody pegs!
I think i've worked out that the pegs all sit in the bottom half of the ring.
With this formation all the numbers are at the very top of the ring too.
thanks again.

Top man - thanks for all the effort.
How did you post your pics btw? I always use this website (can't remember the name) but it only posts up a little thumbnail.

The shafts on the wipers commonly get gummed up - here's a 'how to fix it' guide,
http://www.totalbmwmag.com/HandsOn/TechAug01.PDF
basically take the motor apart and clean it up.

well, they're all on and working!!
With them not having been fitted for ages, the drivers side didn't work and it turned out the contact plug which had been laying around behind the headlamp needed cleaning with some WD40.
Matt, the ring numbers from O/S to N/S is 2,4,3,1. Note also the motors rotate in opposite directions which means they park as a mirror image.
What I noticed is:
When you turn the lights on and operate the wash for the windscreen, the headlamp wash and wipe does a cycle. If you turn the car off and then on again, switch on the lights and wipers, the headlamps do another cycle. If you leave them on after a cycle, it takes another 12 windscreen washes to get them to cycle again.
I need to adjust the squirters too - until then I'm gonna have fun squirting pedestrians!!

nice one
I have fun with the rear washer and pedestrians

They are supposed to work every sixth cycle I think, but mine work every time. I think its something to do with the relay attached to the washer reservior but I've never got it sorted. When you turn the lights on and operate the wash for the windscreen, the headlamp wash and wipe does a cycle. Once the headlamp wipers have started their sequence,, they carry on untill they finish. The control for this is inside the wiper motors.
The light washers are entirely controlled by one of the headlamp wipers, and will complete their cycle when started.
The wipers/washers should operate every fifth or sixth time the screen washers are used, when the lights are on. This is controlled by the box attached to the washer bottle.
