any description of (and ideally a picture) of the modding to the rear exhaust manifold?

3 ways of doing it mate....

1- cut aprox an inch off the back 3 plenims and re-weld to the back plate, tig being the best option imo!

2- cut a groove out off the underside of back 3 plenims and bend the mani downward and then wack tig weld underneath.

Or 3- get danthe to do it lol

I'm sure someone will come along with pics anyway lol.....

easy job if you can weld took me about an hour

Heres a few pics of my attempt,not completley satisfide with the welds may do them again.
Didnt take a pic berofe i did it so shown a pic of the front one so you can get an idea of how much to chop off

Did a dummy run fit and used this set up and had a reasonable clearence not so sure when driving about tho but will more than likely change to the E34 uj mod set up.

going to have a go at this in teh next few days, danthe if you are there ive seen somewhere that you heated cyl 6 where it contacts the steering and bent it. is this a better solution?

im alright with a mig and i think we have oxy acetalin at uni which im not too bad at, will i be better off cutting and sticking melting and bending?

There is a pic in the steering linkages thread where I bashed No 6 in a bit to clear the UJ, it was a standard manifold, but unless you are using solid engine mounts it wont hold up on hard left handers, the engine will be resting on the steering linkage.
Obviously the more you chop out the more you affect the gas flow, my manifolds are modded to a sort of middle ground -





This was the first set I did which are fitted to my track car, no contact with this when giving it some welly round Oulton Park



You have to get a good weld due to the difference in thickness between the stainless tube and the mild steel flange plate, I also weld them inside then smooth it out -
