basically since i changed the oil, filter and plugs etc the car will die whilst driving its only happened three times, and so far its only been when iv started driving it from cold, and noticed that its when i go round a roundabout or take a hard corner, not thrashing it just heavy turning, first thing i notice is that the powersteering stops working so goes heavy, engine cuts out but lighting still works, eg hazards, leave it for roughly ten seconds or more and it will start straight away with no problems, seems like its an electrical fault, iv checked earth straps from, battery and engine to chassis there all fine, i dont think it has an immobiliser its a 1990 316i? anyone got any ideas please help!!

cheers.

I am suffering from a mystery cut out problem, and when mine cuts it won't start again for about ten minutes, i have indentified the problem being the wiring that feeds the blue temp sensor !!!!! wiggled the wires and she comes back to life.

I had the same problem after I'd checked the oil... cutting when I pulled up to junctions and a bit of a rough idle.
Yep, I'd forgotten to put the oil cap back on.
Check the oil filler cap, dip stick are seated properly and then go for air leaks.

im actually fairly embarresed to say that it was actually a loose wire connected to the pass door for the central locking that i had disconnected when i removed an aftermarket alarm from it, forgot to reconnect it :o: so under heavy cornering eg roundabouts the wire was moving across and tripping out on the chassis, all sorted now tho! :D

ok ignore that, the car died 8 times this morning, all at various speeds ngles of cornereing and in a straight line, had to get to college. i rechecked all the wires and theres nothing unprotected touching the chassis etc, iv adjusted the powersteering belt so its not that, adjusted the throttle and idle so idles at 850, checked the fuel pump is working which it is and theres petrol being brought through the lines to manifold no problems now what i have come across which doesnt seem like a likely factor in the mysterious cut outs but theres a petrol leak coming from the filler neck bottom section to tank connection area, the filler neck rubber itself is corroded and wasnt holding the petrol in so cut that section off and pushed the pipe further along and retightened but still leaks so i believe there is a leak somewhere from the tank that i cant confirm till i drop it out, is there any chance that this is affecting the car to cut out? its not only on cornering now straight line twice has cut out but more often on heavy cornering. im runnin out of ideas please help i dont want to have to scrap it!! lol
