when it get water in it, where does it drain away to?
I need a new seal as it's letting water in, I wouldn't mind that too much if I knew where it was going...

mystery of the universe...

That seal (new or old) leaves 2 gaps (at each side of the car) of about 1 cm where the lid 'ends' if you see what I mean (there was a long topic on this a few weeks back); the gaps look intentional, but I can't see any drain holes in the hood compartment. It's difficult to see with all the hood mechanism in the way though.

I fitted a new seal a few years ago, and beefed it up with silicone grease a few months back................ problem solved? NO.

Even with the hardtop on (which overhangs these 2x 1cm gaps) I get a small amount of water in the side of the boot; it seems to trickle down over the wheelarch from somewhere up above that I can't get to :x

why do you think water is getting in if you don't know where the water is collecting?

I don't know how it gets in or where it goes... bt when I pull away or brake hard I hear it sloshing about!!! like it's a few pints worth... I worry that it goes through holes higher up and inside the rear wings!!! I don't understand why it doesn't have drain holes. Even though it's probably not designed to collect water, there's no contingency for it...
It's interesting that a new seal won't necessarily solve the problem, I wondered how that much water seeped through...
it's a mystery at the moment... where it comes from and where it goes... I'm assuming it goes into the wings, or evaporates!

By the way, the boot is as dry as a bone...

eek! Sloshing noises eh?

perhaps your car was previously owned by Vic Reeves?

Are you sure the boot is dry? What about down deep under the carpet at the side?

I'll have a look...

...either way, it sounds like we both want someone to tell us how to stop water getting in...

I had a similar problem after heavy rain a week ago. Wet behind passenger seat (my car is LHD) and a very worrying sloshing shound!!!

I will have a good look around boot area this weekend for leaks etc as I wasn't sure if it was my old hood top and leaky back window or something more like your problem.

I've got a new roof/window, the only thing I can see that might let water in is my old and dry looking seal that goes round the compartment edges...

perhaps we have different problems - my leak is very small winkeye and only goes into the boot.

You should replace your seal (an O/E replacement is only a few quid IIRC from Motormec.co.uk), park the car upside down to get the water out  and then see if you STILL get water onto the carpets.

Even if it doesn't stop the leak, a new seal looks damn good.

Put some silicone grease on the new seal as you put it in.
