Hey guys.... I am looking at an m3 that has an occaisional rattle on start up, but fine when warmed up. Is this the start of something I should worry about? Anything I should be paying particular attention to?

It's an '87, so the 2.3l, with 200km on the clock. The car is clean and standard.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

I would look out for a poor condition timing chain and poor oil circulation around the cams........
Pete don't care about colour, He would shag a rainbow if he could find the end of it....

I would put money on fitting the e36 tensioner curing all nasty start up rattles . Straightforward 30 minute job providing the car hasn't got a/c. Not difficult but advisable to have done by someone who has fitted one before. The part is approx Ԛ£70 from your local dealer.

I think all e30 m3s just sound like that to me.
