Just idly musing... what do you guys think an e39 540 manual would break to? Have had a look on the bay but there isn't much to go on, box wise. Someone's touting a 530 engine & box with little interest. People say they're worth stupid money... but are they actually?

Six speed box is valuable.

Yeah I believe so! I was thinking a 4.4 engine, manual box & ECU's package might make a grand. Engines don't seem to be worth a lot on their own as theres thousands of the buggers lying around now admittedly with torque converters bolted to the back of 'em. Then there's wheels, interior, brake setup, random bits.. £1500 total maybe on the safe side?

There's a fella on here from Edinburgh with a 540 estate for sale. Much cheapness. His username is Mr Chips IIRC. If you can't find him drop me a PM and I'll put you both together.

E34s don't break well in my experience.
You'll do well to sell anything apart from the box really.

I have a 540 6 speed for braking (but on hold till the insurance is sorted) and only two items are of interest box etc for a manual conversion and the calipers for e24/28 upgrades. The shell and cats should weigh in for £150-£200

No stupidity on my part just the a**hole in a corsa ignoring the traffic lights and when Helen was on the way down to see her folks, stoved in the drivers side front corner.

The guy asked about an e39 540i.
If you drag it out and most stuff is good, you might make £2200+. A touring breaks better as it has nice expensive self levelling components that are always in demand.
I doubt the interior seats will fetch much though. Random things dependant on spec will sell well. For example if it hasn't got wood trim you'll recoup £100 as people like the aliminium/black look/ If the climate control panel and its buttons are all intact £50. Nothing amazing, but it all adds up, but involves lots of hassle.

Ooops. So he did. My apologies. E39s break very well indeed. In time you'll sell every last piece.

Bmw cats are 100 each and there is two on that. With batteries at £3.50 per kg, alloys £8.30 and low grade is £160 pet tonne you should do better than suggested on the metal once the frag fest is over!e21Jason wrote:I have a 540 6 speed for braking (but on hold till the insurance is sorted) and only two items are of interest box etc for a manual conversion and the calipers for e24/28 upgrades.
