Spotted somewhere someone using a 4.0 clutch on a 3.0 flywheel and 5 speed box on their M60 conversion,
i dont know the person and the car hasnt been testing ie moved with the clutch however its been fitted in there
Can this work, are they really the same? I know the 3.0 clutch cant handle a 4.0 as they slip alot (driven a few)
anyone know any more?

M60B40 clutch disc is 265mm and M60B30 clutch disc 240mm. In addition, the other strong V8 240mm clutch discs / pressure plates (used in M62B44 and S62B49) have 6-speeder clutch shaft hole and thus are not suitable for 5-speeder..

I'm told they bolt up fine, will it release the bearing as I know the 4.0 release bearing is much bigger?
Surely if it all bolts up then it should work.

1) The 4.0 clutch disc is 25mm (1 inch) larger in diameter, it won't fit to the flywheels designed to 240mm clutch (as used in M60B30, all M62 and S62 engines).
2) 6-speed gearbox has thicker clutch shaft, and thus the inner diameter also in release bearing is larger than in 5-speed 'boxes.
3) www.bmwfans.info is a great place for checking where specific parts are used ;)
