M20 Clutch/Flywheel and Starter on an M52?

Quite simply, using the e36 box, an I fit an m20 flywheel clutch and starter to an m52?

I believe you are supposed to use a 323i release bearing to go with

did the 323 not use the getrag 240 box like the 320? If so, I'll probably be able to lay my hands on sucha a release bearing..

looks like the early 323i used release bearing 215 112 045 25..

Later ones had the same bearing as the facelift m20b20 215 175 214 71

Guess it'll be a case of suck it and see!

Ive done bags of these without the E21 bearing and never had any issues.

If you do want a taller bearing then these late ones are a nice touch -

The one on the right is a standard height bearing I welded some 5mm strips onto

Dan,
Are you saying that a standard M20 release bearing should be fine? My Sachs clutch kit arrives today and I don't want to fit it if it's going to cause me problems further down the line...

It will be fine, there are loads and loads of M50/M52 engines with standard M20 starter/clutch kits

The brother got a taste for drag racing at York, 24 runs at Crail didnt do the e36 any good :D
