M50 engine into my touring which has a cat and a single Lambda sensor.

Just started looking carefully at the exhaust manifolds this weekend. Basicly I've decided to lead them back pretty much to the cat in 51mm Stainless tube.

My problem is the single Lambda probe. What has anyone else done with this? Ignore it? (I guess most E30's don't have cats) Connect it to a single manifold on just 3 cylinders? Do sonething really complicated to attach it to both pipes?

On the e30 there is a boss that serves both pipes but it's in a position where it really has to go (too high up). If I weld it on further back it'll stick down under the car and seems a bit vulnerable there.

Mine's just on 3 pipes and seems to work fine. I guess as long as there's no reason why those three pots are running much differently to the other three there's no problem.

Mine's down under the car sticking horizontaly to the right - it's above the level of the bottom of the chassis rail though. There's about 1/2 an inch between the end of the sensor and the side of the chassis rail.

I'm wanting to work an X pipe in just before it but haven't quite committed to that level of ball ache yet.

Would you try to fit the Lambda into the x-pipe?
EDIT: Remove some crap that makes no sense.

If the gasses in one cylinder are wildly different from another It probably would indicate some serious engine problem which would be noticable anyway I'm guessing. No spark, broken/bent valve. The only thing is that as I do have a cat I need to protect it until I decide to spend thousands on a whole new system (which will be de-cat).

I have 2 downpipes into a Y piece and then 2.5' single exhaust back... I've had my lambda put in just after the Y piece so it registers the full flow. Works fine on my car :)
A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better winkeye :D
