Any reason for not fitting an E36 rack too?
Very easy to do before fitting the new engine and is a good mod over standard.

I would also echo the comment about fitting the E30 rack, OK so you need to get some other bits together and all done you would have probably spent about £200 on pipes & steering linkage, but better to do this before the engine is fitted.
When I M52'd my touring I kept the E30 rack and it was such a disappointment with the slow steering

i was going to just use a e30 one as i didnt think it was that bad. if i buy a e36 rack then what steering linkage do i need to use and could i get away with using the standard e36 power steering pipes. cheers for your replys

You can get away with bending the E36 hard pipes, I tried & gave up so had some custom ones made up. DanThe now does these and they look OEM.
The thing is, if you stick with E30 rack then change your mind later on, if your exhaust manifold has not been modified so that it clears E36 rack column setup, then you'll have to take the manifolds off again to modify.
Again, Dan does manifolds that are plug & play, essentially taking away some of the biggest hassle points that face anyone doing a 24v swap, i.e. wiring loom, exhaust manifolds and now the PAS pipes for E36 rack.
