Rear Lights

I'm sure this has been posted before, but can you swap earlier rear lenses (before 1990 ish) with the later ones? My dates are probably all wrong. Earlier ones are as on the M3

no you can't mate, well not direct replacement, the later lights are bigger (taller) and the rear panel is slightly different just below the lights. Obviously, you can get anything to fit if you want, but it is not plug and play in standard trim
