I'm going to re-shell my touring over the coming weeks/months and will have access to the complete wiring loom (moving it with the re-shell). Figure now would be a good time to get some speaker wire in place.
I don't know what kind of future sound system I have planned but would like to future proof it a little. I'm using a alpine CDE-9880R headunit and for the moment use the standard touring rear speakers and up front a set of jbl speakers and tweeters. I'd like to get some better speakers, and prob an amp, at some stage but can't afford it at the min.
What speaker wire do I need to use, any idea of length required, how does the speaker wire connect to the radio if it has a block connector?

That looks like something usefull Rav
Does it matter what thickness/gauge the wire is?
Just thinking, If I use an amp down the line... Won't it be hooked up using the pre-outs and then the amp to the speakers with speaker wire? So I should really be thinking about where to hide and amp and running speaker cable to it? Can the amp be fed directly from the battery? (Will be relocating the battery to the boot)

Amp can be connected directly to the battery via a fuse, this is a must!!!
Speaker wire in a thick guage is ok for what you need.
Connections are Head unit, pre outs to amp, speaker cables from Amp to speakers mate.
And I wouldn't worry too much about getting the cable in now, it's easy enought to put it all in afterwards.
I did all my cabling in a day.

So I'll be routing all speaker cable from the amp to the 4 speaker (and 2 tweetrs) and the old stuff will be obsolete.
I figure it's handy to do it now and save some grief later, I might run phono cables from the amp to the pocket with the batter where I'll most likely be hiding the amp and maybe a run of speaker cable as well while I'm at it.
