Going to try and remove the gearbox from the car tonight so I can get the block out some night this week.
Do I just disconnect the prop, undo the bolts from the bell housing to the block and then slide it off the input shaft?
I donÔš't want to snap the input shaft or wreck the box or flywheel etc.
Removing gearbox?

Remove exhust
Remove heat shields
Remove prop
Remove slave cyclinder, and tie to one side and any sensors
"tilt" engine so top gearbox bolts are accesible (using a jack at the front of your engine) make sure you have the bonnet popped up.
Put engine back in normal place
Undo rest of gear box and lift off, you shouldn't damage anything.
Its worth emptying the oil, makes it a bit lighter.
ITs a joy...

Block as in engine? Why do you want to seperate them in the car?Adammcf wrote:Going to try and remove the gearbox from the car tonight so I can get the block out some night this week.
Far easier to take them out and put them in together.
Gwynleym10 misses out the hardest bit - undoing the fixed part of the gear linkage from the gear box.
It's a pin that slides out to the left, but it's held in place by a spring clip that hooks over the left hand part of the gearbox that the pin goes through. You have to release the clip and swing it up so that the pin can slide out. Very difficult to describe, without seeing a pin removed from a car. Then it's obvious.
It's possible to remove the gear lever and to leave the fixed part of the linkage attached to the gearbox untill you get it out.

new i forgot something.
With the engine/gearbox tilted you should be able to see the linkage. A small flat bladed screwdriver work well for me.
I thought the undoing of the engine-bell housing bolts was the hardest part....
Agree about its easier taking it out than putting it back. If you only have axle stands lift a gearbox into position while lying on your back is not the easiest! A jack and a friend (especially if he is called Jack) will really help!

Cool, cheers lads. I dont have an engine lift or anything so its coming out by hand in bits and going back in that way.
The current bottom end is fubared so replacing it with another one.
