What have you done with your EWS ring/antenna?

fits perfectly around the barrell with some minor dremeling to the surround.

yep ill second that, only thing is im fitting another engine now that does not work with that ews ring.I was going to sell the wiring loom ecu ews as a kit but ill have to leave the ring on or end up with a gap round the barrell. It does look like a factory fit though.

Maybe a silly question but did you remove the top cowling to dremel it out or did you just pull it up and do it in place?
Reason I ask is the top cowling is a bugger to get out past the ignition lock etc.
At what position did you have the wiring part of the ring at?

I just lifted it up abit eko as it was easier to cut abit out and test fit quickly then rather than taking it all off and dremeling it and then all back on again realising I needed to cut more.

Had the wires to the bottom.

To get the cowl out I usually lift the dash slightly by removing the bolts on the side

Silly question, but im guessing everyone just uses the E30 metal 'key' section and puts this into the E36 plastic key 'body'.

But i cant get my bloody E36 key body apart to swap the metal 'key' sections

Any easy fixes?

Dave Im having a go at an s54 at the moment,my 3.0ltr spun a shell last year i was a bit depressed at the time so i thought i,d cheer my self up with an s54. Big mistake! lol

I use an E30 key with the chip put inside it, but retaining a fully functional light.

Little bit of Dremel work inside the key to make a small recess for the transponder and jobs a goodun

My only issue with doing that (as great an idea it is lads), is I have 2 keys for my car and 2 fobs for my cat 1 alarm. So if I were to put the chip in 1 key and loose it....... I'd be pretty fecked!

What I planned on doing was putting the antenna around the ignition and then would simply having the e36 key on my keys work (within range of antenna, and to charge key?)??

Can a second chip be bought from bmw to go in my other key??

You can get more keys from BMW, you are supposed to supply them the Reg doc and your driving licence for ID, but there are ways around the Reg doc if you have the vehicle VIN/Reg number and your local dealers are helpful.

Ive never bothered to get spares myself, just be careful with your chipped key!

Local dealers are helpful to me as it goes dan, I even get trade in there

Key ect came from magpie, I will pm him and see if he has the relevent numbers for it now

my dealer reckoned as long as i had reasonable proof that i had owned the e36 before i swapped the engine i would be ok for keys with drivers license and passport (i kept the v5 when i scrapped it). i asked what if i just bought the engine? he said bring the e30 with the donor engine in it and that would suffice for most dealers as they could at least check the engine number.

That would be the ideal way, however i have a non torch key for my BMW. Off to the dealers for me then

Or glue the transponder to the steering coloumn. But as said, id rather have the little extra peace of mind that EWS brings.

But, as my brother said to me earlier, if they want the car, theyll tow it away on a flat bed truck anyway.

DanThe - Very long shot, but an old sport of mine had the Mtech Torch Key, if i get the build/option sheet from the dealers for it, will the Mtech key be listed as one of the factory options - therefore giving us the part number?

This is for the torch section that slides into the key head. Only used on the E34 M5 and early E36 M3.
