m50 RAD

What rad is everyone running for their m50's? I notice that a lot of people are running the rad's with the reservoir's build in. I like the concept as I don't like the external header tank.

May also be going s50 in the future so what rad work's best?

Aren't all E36 Rads the same anyway?

Lol no mate, a rad from an aircon equipped e36 328.... We use these rads as there is a hole in the side for thermo switch as we have to run electric fans on these conversions

Well I think any E36 Aircon rad has this not just 328. Might be wrong but mine wasn't from a 328i and I have one

And how did everyone mount their rads?

Use 2 e30 drivers side rad mounts (small ones) and secure with the original e30 top rad mount.

@ferg- you could well be right but I was under the impression the 328 rad offers more cooling capability due to it being a deeper rad......

Possibly, mine might be from a 323/325 then

I didn't need 2 drivers side mounts on my IS as it appeared to already have them. My old Rad went pop in January so I dropped the E36 rad in anyway, didn't need anything it was a direct fit with the only differences being the E36 rad was deeper and the top mount didn't sit as well as on the old E30 one....

You can just make it out on this photo of the top mount, mounted in the E36 rad with my M42 in situe.

@ Ant, what temp sensor di you use on the Rad, you can just make it out abov the yellow writing in bottom right hand corner

I had dan make me a 1 speed fan loom, I think it was a compact Ti thermo switch, I'm waiting for him to confirm now for sure....

When I stick the m52 in I want to run a cooler stat and thermo switch to keep temp down through summer.... Maybey a 70 odd degree.

I'm running an 88degree stat at the mo and 90 thermo switch, the 90 was all dan had at the time to fit the plug on the loom he made me, but at least its never going to go above 90 degrees for now

88 should be fine on an M52, They need to be fairly hot to run well.... just not too hot lol

My old Aprilia RSV Motorbike used to run excess of 100 degrees in the summer and that thing ran really really well.

Dan will confirm I am sure but I would like to know which temp sensor I need for the Rad and will also need him to make me a loom up for an A/C fan.

That's where I have my thermo switch and it all works as it should. I would highly recommend dans looms! They are great quality and do what they say on the tin

I had to be awkward and have a 1 speed jobby but its in and works fine
