As my s50 is going in my e21 I plan on using the whole loom from the e36 cut down to the minimum with the e36 dash etc.

What i want to do is remove the ews which is the early version with the external ews controller and motronic 3.3.1 ecu. out of the loom, any one any ideas

Is this for a track car Jason? If not I would rather keep the EWS for security purposes if I were you.
The easy way out is to use an early ECU non EWS, I believe its quite easy to copy the software from an early ECU and write it to the later ECU also to do the same job

Dan it is a track car and it is a non ews ecu, the issue is getting the ews gubbins of the loom.

Just get choppy choppy, no issues to be had if your ECU isnt looking for the EWS

PM Uwe, Jason ;)

You can have some steroids pumped into that ECU while your getting the ews done too

*edit* somehow didn't see the last few posts!

If its a non-ews ECU, all you have to do is chop the gubbins out and loop two wires (can't remember which ones they were now but it was to do with the starter feed anyway). at least thats what we did on an S50b32 track car anyway.

Done a bit or digging, read label ecu's get an inhibit the injector signal from the EWS, cut the wire to pin 66 on the ecu. EWS1 also powers the relay for the starter so then loop out the starter feed that goes through the ews, job done.

Starter wont be a problem as its going into an E21, that only concerns the E36 cabin loom
I cant see why you would have to cut the EWS signal wire as it wont be connected to anything anyway

I am using the entire loom from the e36 inc the cabin loom, as I binned the e21 stuff due to age/condition, I think I can sort it now. I just did not want to get shafted by the EWS.

Sounds like you have your work cut out, E36 loom is as big as a 3 series loom got, you will be cutting most of it out

Would be nearly as easy to stick an S54, E46 car loom, CAN-bus in all!

yes i know it's a bit of work, but it easier in some ways as I can use e36 clocks as I have an e30 diff to pick the speedo up from, saves the cost of aftermarket speedo etc, also battery in the boot and the wiring will be better nick than the 33 year stuff i pulled out.
