No point having 24V power if you can't stop it right?
What brakes are you running with your M50/M52?

Clio servo, E30 master cylinder, braided hoses, dot 4 fluid, some drilled/grooved rotors on the front (no idea of make) same with the front pads. Textar pads on the back with new everything.
Got some wilwood 4 pots in the garage, just been lazy gathering up the rest of the bits needed for a 280mm front disc setup.

Standard discs front and rear with clio servo and fresh dot 4 here
Getting the readies together for some ebc grooved and drilled discs and green stuff pads for the front and rear soon, but at the moment she stops fine enough I've found. The clio servo helps a lot I think

A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better

why? an m50 is only 20bhp up on a m20 2.5 and an m52 2.5 is the same power as standard e30 325i. people talk about these m50/52 conversions as if its creating some kinda rocket ship. a far cry from an S50 conversionDuke137 wrote:Ok, as title really what brakes are you guys all running?

Not on your car it won't.turk wrote:Standard calipers, green stuff or redstuff pads, braided hoses decent fluid should be enough...
The ability of achieving relatively high speeds in a very short distance will put a much bigger strain on the brakes than you would think.
If you drive the car the same as you did before the conversion, then you won't need bigger brakes, but that kind of negates the point of doing the conversion in the first place.
I found standard sized brakes to be marginal with my old 2.7 M20, let alone on an M50/52/S50/S54 etc.
Size matters
Ian.

even on my M20 2.7 my standard callipers with red stuff pads and ...cant remember what discs,
they would sometimes struggle to stop me when i wanted to stop,
but sometimes they would be ok, (obviously not going fast enough)
so with my M52 2.8 i'm fitting the Brembo 4 pot's with 312mm discs
M50 Turbo!!!
I shall say no more
@pauldeacs- what the F are you talking about man?! An m50b25 is 20bhp more than an m20b25 in "standard" spec yes but anyone that does the conversion will be running a chip, lightened m20 fly and oh yeah a set of m52 tubulars, on mine I have a custom freeflow right from the manifold flanges so I reckon I'm up to 200 maybey a shave over it!
The m52 2.5 (or 323 lump) comment is nul and void as I don't think anyone would be thick enough to do a pointless conversion but then again by adding the m50 2.5 manifold they are straight in the 192bhp ball park before any of the mods mentioned above...
As for the m52b28........ You obviously have never been in a 2. 8 24v e30 have you! That engine makes for a fast e30!
Why do people automaticly assume the ""3.2" is the best conversion for these cars?? That engine is overkill in an e30! They are only good after 100mph and with the right gearing an m52 would be with it to there..... Who cares after that cos I don't. Anything happens after 120 your fukin dead anyway
I'm m52b28'ing mine soon and I can't wait

I`ve been thinking about getting some bigger brakes for up the front and maybe the back, not sure if im right but can you use bigger discs and pots from bigger BM`s? If so which ones and how hard would they be to adapt.
Staying with my 15 BBS though.

You can use front discs from an audi TT (have to have the pcd drilled to suit e30 stud pattern)
540 callipers and custom brackets to fit them
Not sure about the rears though but I would imagine grooved and drilled rear discs with green or yellow stuffs would be fine with those stoppers up front
To fit the above up front though I think you would need a wheel size of 16 upwards to accomadate..... There was a set in the for sale section before mate

I have to disagree with that. Have you been in a properly sorted 3.2 S50 powered E30? It's certainly not overkill, and has more torque pretty much everywhere in the rev range. I fully agree that the 2.8 M52 conversion makes for a very quick E30, but the S50 is a step up in every respect.e30-dk wrote:Why do people automaticly assume the ""3.2" is the best conversion for these cars?? Not if your dropping it into a 316 or 318 shell for example!pauldeacs wrote:why? an m50 is only 20bhp up on a m20 2.5 and an m52 2.5 is the same power as standard e30 325i. people talk about these m50/52 conversions as if its creating some kinda rocket ship. a far cry from an S50 conversionDuke137 wrote:Ok, as title really what brakes are you guys all running?

Remeber quick drivers don't just have the fastest cars! (not that this is relevant but Moto GP riders and F1 drivers do most of their passing using their brakes)
You stick to your standard set up if that makes you happy mate
Big stoppers FTW
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Dan makes, or has the brackets made and IIRC the rear disks are from an E46 touring, similar to the E30.de conversions
As an aside, but still keeping OT.
My M20B25 converted 316i touring runs a 2pc 335x32 disk and bell combo with Wilwood 6 pots up front with standard rears(atm), braided lines and E30 M3 master cylinder and decent pads
I used to use a 302mm/E38 4 pot Brembo setup, but still found it lacking slightly for my driving style.

TT fronts redrilled/centre bore opened
E46 vented rears, modified a lot more
As dave said, pretty much the same as e30.de gear but at a fraction of the cost!
I have a few sets of rear brackets in a box somewhere, phosphate coated ready to go, rear discs can be made to order also

So? I have destroyed standard brakes with uprated discs/pads on a standard m20b25 in a fully stripped car so less weight to stop.pauldeacs wrote: why? an m50 is only 20bhp up on a m20 2.5 and an m52 2.5 is the same power as standard e30 325i. people talk about these m50/52 conversions as if its creating some kinda rocket ship. a far cry from an S50 conversion
Anyway, I have WMS 4 pots, DS3000 pads iirc, braided line and currently a golf servo but have a pedal box to go in, just need to decide on m/c size.
Does all this mean i`m going to have to have 16`s minimun and did you tig up the original TT holes or just leave em?DanThe wrote:TT fronts redrilled/centre bore opened

Ignore the tig bit cuz i dont see the discs liking all that heat.
