Hiya,

Should all E30s have a spare wheel that matches their other wheels?

I mean that (provided they are on their original wheels, naturally) should the spare be another the same:

a 14" bottletop in a 14" bottletopped car, steelie in a steelied one, etc?

Or are some body styles equipped with a steelie no matter what?

Often had a steel spare with an alloy wheel car.

+1 I have 5 bottletops but you often found a steelie in the boot regardless. If i had a steelie in the boot id be changing it for a matching alloy because if i ever did get a puncture it would just annoy me one wheel being odd lol

Well there you go.

I've had 4 BMWs and they all had alloy spares. I remember thinking it was kinda pointless on my 7er because it was a FRONT alloy wheel spare, so I'd have been knackered if I'd had a rear puncture, regardless.

So, basically there's no rule to guide me as to whether a car is on it's original wheels if I look at it?

And a car on 15" BBSs with a fifth BBS spare is either: a well specced original car or one with a possibly fastidious owner? (or HAD a possibly fastidious owner at some point)

Bums! :?

I have always taken a steelie spare out of any E30 I have owned and replaced with a relevant alloy. I suspect that new car buyers may have had the choice of adding a spare ally over a steelie, but cannot remenber if truthful.

Maybe some other old fart will be along with a better memory than me. :o:

Had bottletop spares in both my touring and the bronze turd both of which came from the factory with bottletops.

Seem to remember my 320iSE which had 15" BBS from the factory also having a 15" BBS Spare.

i broke an very rusty L plate touring that came to me on 15'' BBS,with an unused steel spare in the boot....I'm afraid that I had to fit said unused wheel one icy night after losing an argument with a kerb.....then I had to replace a front control arm as well...

My B10 is the same.
It has a front wheel sized rim as a spare, however, when you work out the circumference of the 235/40/18 (fronts)and then do the same with the 265/35/18s fitted on the rear you find out that there is only 1mm of difference, so it'll fit both front and rear if needed.

The spare wheel for every E30 I've owned has matched the other 4 wheels.

I wish I could say the same for my E46 which sadly only has a special needs space saver wheel. :(
