Actually, 2. Malcolm (Tylerma) and his Dad. :notworthy:

They kindly helped me by driving a big Luton van (the one with the tail lifts at the back, coz I can't drive one of those :surrender: ) up to Manchester and then all the way back with goodies for my E30.

It was a very long and tiring day yesterday, and I believe they got back home at about 3AM, only to wake up at 7AM this morning to go and return the van !

BIG thanks to both of them. People like them are what this forum is about, so hopefully we will have some more honest people, some real heros always around to help each other.

EDIT:

Here are a couple of pics.

Wonder what this toy is

Hmm. This is heavier than we thought. Ah, maybe we should have cut that rope first...

I knew I would look like a zombie in that pic
(after all i only had 3 hours kip)

the day was a laugh until the sat nav decided to poo poo itself
and get lost and in turn so did we 8O

and a slight panic when the van lost all power
that was a shock
I thought we were gonna spend the night at south mimms services.

but it sorted itself out (thats fords for ya)

was a good trip all in all
all i need now is some sleep

p.s. i am never using the M6 again

Yeah, you need to sort out your woman in the Satnav - she behaved exactly like a normal one would - and got us lost as a result

That hiccup with the van was a typical Ford thing - they're not called Fix Or Repair Daily for no reason

I'm just about to go to bed as well now. Fell asleep on the keyboard twice already !

Oh, did you get the head off yet ?

Yup, you might as well pop around and get us going with all the Stage2 work that has to be done. Because I can't figure out where to start...

Checked some prices of ancilliaries on the ETK yesterday :clin:

Hello mate

Good to see you around again.

Yes, the plans are now finally being put into practice. Once it's all done, I'll take you out for a spin in the new toy.

Maybe that will convince you to have a re-think about E30s - something Ant has obviously failed to do winkeye

Oh yes, the Zone spirit is definitely there.

Inspite of recent mistakes made by a few people, and the resulting unfair pointing of fingers by most without realizing things were being done to make this a better place, the Zone still has plenty of the 'genuine' members, who are willing to help each other out wherever possible.

For example, Demlotcrew has just left my house. He's been here from about 2PM, helping me strip the engine and get things going.

Yes, it's a different case that he has left a huge oil puddle in my garage :banned:

Joking. That was a mess we ended up with due to wrong information provided by the guy who sold me the engine (probably drained the oil in his engine, instead of mine !)

Anyway, more pics will be coming up soon, as work continues tomorrow and over the next N number of days.

So yes, I will aim to be at Ace, although my car won't be there yet....

What engine is that exactly then, apart from being an M50,and why have you taken the head off?
What plans do you have for it's internals?

Brian, it's a M50 2.5 lump. Non-vanos. Out of an E34.

Plans for the engine are simple at the moment. Clean it all up, make sure the internals are all in good working order, change things as required, and change things that are easy to do just now. No fancy plans, as I'm no boy-racer. Just want a nice, cruise-mobile, but with enough oomph to shock a few of the new kids on the block/chavs who might take an E30 for granted winkeye

And that's about it.

The head's still on the block, it's the sump that has been taken off right now, cleaned, ready to go once Demlot gets his act together and brings me back my new rear crank seal/cover. Don't think I'll take the head off - will check out the internals when I take the rocker cover off, once I've put back the sump, which should be in a few days time.

Need to start figuring out the whole wiring, as it's all been disconnected and left in a corner while the engine gets some TLC/maintainence.

Good to see you back Richard ! I sure hope it will be good, as the time and effort so far (and we have only just started) is taking its toll on me already

Can't think of anything specific from Justin just now. Coming to Ace on Monday ?

That's just what I've done with one of my Tourings, only mine was a sinle vanos unit, from a '93.
I've got all the wiring details when you need them.
M50s are pretty bulletproof, so I shouldn't expect you'll find much wrong with it. Mine went in just as it came, and is perfect.
Tried mine at first with the original 2.5 touring Auto diff still in place.
First gear was useless, second not much better, and wiould still break traction in third. Tamed it a bit now with a diff from a E28 525e auto.
Engine from that one won't be wasted either!

Ah ! That's really handy. Have you got the wiring diagrams/instructions jotted down somewhere ? Will need to get them off you....

Have you kept yours Auto ? Mine will be. Got the actual switchable auto gearbox, along with the wiring and ECU, from the same car that my engine came from, so it should all just fit together.

Got an E30 M3 3.25 LSD to go with the Auto gearbox combination. What propshaft did you use ? Hope I won't need an E30 M3 lot !

Got every detail of my conversion written down as I did it.
Was before i found this zone, and I did everything working it out for myself, apart from a few hints from the German site.
It was the E30 Tourer that was the auto; the E34 was a manual, although the box i used was actually from an E36, as was the gear linkage.
Propshaft was a standard E30 325 manual, which fitted straight in, apart from a slight adjustment at the sliding bit.

P.S. I know you've got an M3 diff - off ebay.
I was going to bid on that, when I came home for lunch, but I got delayed and was too late!! A bargain if it was good.
