just been advised that my e34 325 mounts aren't the right ones for the job, whats the best mounts to go for and does anyone have a link to where i could buy some?

You need e36 6 cylinder engine arms and "e28 m535 (m5) rubber mounts" -hockey puck style ones!

i have the e36 arms as the engine came from an e36, but i then bought e34 525 (sorry not 325) engine mounts, been told these are no good as they sit to low and are to weak,
£60 a pair
my e34 ones were £11 each
would of been £8 each but that place only had one in stock

Unfortunatly so mate, I payed £44 for the pair in euro parts about 4 months ago and from what people have been saying lately they are around the £60 mark.

I have e34 525 rubbers on mine, have had to pack one side up with a couple of washers to help clearance with the M3 manifold. If you're not using the M3 manifold I think you'll probably be fine. They're not too bad to change after the fact anyway so no harm done in trying them out.
