A Mates just bought a 316 e30 on an "A" Plate and it has Facelift rear lights is this right?

The Dash mpg counter doesnt work.... and the inspection light is perm on, does this mean he has the battery problem? with the early type clocks?

Also should this car have a check computer? as the previous owner said he fitted it.... But doesnt appear to be plugged into anyting.... should there be a loom there? is it possible to "make" it work or is there a lot involved?

also viscus fan coupling seams to be knackerd....wheres the best place to get one? Would you reccomend getting a secondhand one?

This car has been on ebay hasn't it? went around a couple of times.

Is it def a 1985 car? has a 316 m10 carb engine? (big round air intake on top of the engine)? Or is it a late car with the wrong reg plate (which it looks to be)

Or I suspect it must have been rear ended at somepoint, hence the later style rear panel. May not be a problem though.

inspection light and econ guague is due to faulty battreys yes, easiest just ot get a second hand board.

Ok many thanks,

it has a 17**cc engine, yes it has a carb (has a choke incar)

RAC Check says:

Manufacturer BMW
Model 316
Body type 2 DOOR SALOON
Colour WHITE
Fuel type PETROL
Date manufactured 30 December 1984
Number of previous owners 13
Last owner change 20 March 2005

So im guessing its been rear ended? but i cant understand why it has been changed to a facelift..... when the original rear pannel for pre-facelift is still avalible from bmw? It would also mean altering the rear wings because the cutout for the lights is about 1" taller?

Also got it off ebay for Ԛ£270 quid with no mot or tax, and it sailed through mot with an advisory that the jacking points will need to be done next year. That was a bit lucky!!

Many Thanks

Ignoring the reg number and build date, I'd have said it was a very early facelift car, get the last 7 digits of the chassis number and run them by your local dealer and see what that comes back with, these websites that check vehicle reg's are useless, especially when the car has had reg plate changes etc, and the car could be on a private plate.

My car (the M3) shows up as an E36 M3 evolution convertible when put into any of these reg check websites, registered in 1998.

Hi all

This is mine!

Seems to be very clean etc.. but I have to say you are making me worried with all these rear ended and reg plate differences!!

Hi again all,

Just a quick question again!

My car seems very reluctant to start with/without choke unless throttle is applied and when the car does start it idles just above 1K RPM I'm not mega mechanical but I gather that this isnt correct?

Thanks for any help!!

James.
