Ten years and more ago, ECP sold BMW, Mercedes, VAG and very little else to a specialised niche market. Now they are a major motor factors selling parts, tools and accessories - even garage equipment- for just about everything.

They've also hugely increased their retail end-user sales, targetting the traditional Halfords customer. It's not quite at the stage that it's a high street brand, but it's now much more than a "traditional" motor factors.

It's no wonder that some of the specialised knowlege has been lost in their, pretty successful, attempt to conquer the world.

They're really hammering the trade sales and round here they have almost become a wholesaler - you see their vans delivering to the local factors. Their vans are out all day and I get stuff ordered the day before delivered by 08:30. If I order before 13:00 and it's in stock, I'm guaranteed to get it the same day. That's good service.

However, the amount of times they get it wrong first time is too high. Their trade discount is poor too reflecting their desire to be a retailer. Selling so cheaply to the retail customer leaves little room for trade discount and they are significantly beaten by GSF here. However their vans are about 4 or 5 times a day - which is often just as well - but you get wrong parts from the dealer too - particularly on sided stuff - you often get the wrong side, making me wonder if BMW need to increase its nearside/offside left/right training.

Take some responsibilty yourself for what you order - check on realoem etc. and you SHOULD get dealer quality parts at great discounts over dealer prices. BUT check the dealer prices first. BMW's parts pricing policy is bizarre. Some bits you'd expect to be dear are surprisingly cheap and some bits you'd expect to be reasonable are eye wateringly expensive.

The biggest longer term issue is likely to be that the amount of E30, and earlier parts in general, being held is reducing quickly and I fear ECP are heading too "mainstream" to be bothered with 30 year old cars. There is far more profit in Fiestas and Insignias and that's the bottom line.

Good on the ECP manager setting up an E30Zone account. Sacked for approaching probably the biggest online single model owners club in the UK? Promoted more like. This could work very well for all of us and the Leicester branch of ECP. Don't slag off the competition though - not very professional.

Mods as we now seem to have a dedicated ECP contact shouldn't this be stickied or have a dedicated ECP section ?

I will be placing a large-ish order this week once we have sorted out the last of the fine detail and will feedback how it goes - so far pretty good even though its been another guy not Matt I've been dealing with.

Am back Tuesday mate but Olly is happy to look after anyone in my absence. He knows a lot more about bmw's than I do. I'm planning on giving him this account for that reason. I think there's massive potential in this site, had six emails so far in 3 days without really pushing it!!

I had a message from a mod saying someone will contact me soon to discuss options, Am up for an ecp section /sticky if that is an option. we can check it regularly and respond to most requests within the hour (will be longer if the phones are hectic) same day dispatch should be possible a lot of the time too.

Order placed today for an eye-watering £522 :clin:

Olly has been great to deal with so far - fast communication by email, checking and double checking of part numbers and quantities.

Order will hopefully be ready in a few days as the Goodridge stainless hoses are made to order.

Will report back once the stuff is here but so far am impressed - prices on some items significantly cheaper than the ECP website.

I used to use ECP to get parts for my iS but after i had numerous wrong parts sent over and over again i actually stopped using them altogether..even if they where cheaper than GSF id STILL go to gsf just because they NEVER got an item wrong..

Now this could just be because the branch i go to are useless, but they left a bad impression on me and thats all that matters!

Now if i wanted something of you "meatballs82" do i ask you in a PM then you send it to my address or what? i dont understand this set-up lol

Because if you can garantee to send me the right parts for cheaper than gsf ill give it a go..

Got to say Matt (Meatballs82) seems a decent chap, got me prices very quickly. Going to order a couple of bits tomorrow and the discount was very good :D

I think an ECP section on the Zone would work well

I may be wrong here but the fee's paid by the companys who are traders on the zone, stop every member from having to pay to join.

There are alot who do this.

I think ECP's need to cough up to get a place along side these guys. Only my opinion of course :D

Basic trade discount to start, if it works and the monthly spend moves in the right direction your discount will get better! however, I will always give kick ass deals for big orders and group buys.

01162 045 783 is my direct line
Now i like the sound of this, handy this is my local 8)

I have had a few issues with the correct parts being ordered (even after pointing out on the screen at the counter which one to order) but i just made sure i checked at the desk, just had to wait another day which in that instance wasn't too annoying despite to 35mile round trip to the store.

One thing i did come across a few years ago was buying some new front top mounts, got home opened the box and they were blatently used items, was refunded with no issues though and this taught me to check everything at the counter.

Oh and another thumbs up for pagid brakes, never had any issues with them!

Shameless bump for this thread.

I've just spent a shade under £725 with these guys and the order has turned up this morning.

Would like to report back that the service from these guys has been A1.

Dealt with Olly at leicester branch - order has been checked and double checked and is spot on.

Olly has been very good to deal with, answers emails quickly, and although he doesn't have an enthusiasts knowledge of E30 stuff he does know his stuff.

To answer the usual ECP gripes that people seem to have :

The parts are exactly what I ordered
The parts are all brand new
The boxes have been opened by ECP at my request to check that whats in the box is correct ( Damper locking collars etc )

Can't recommend them highly enough and the prices are competetive.

Any chance of a Sticky for this thread yet mods ?

I have a suggestion that this thread, with the ok from Matt/Olly should be treated like the Genuine BMW parts department/RPM/Sky Insurance with a designated section on the for sale/wanted area of the forum?

I think that would be better for all concerned as those systems work well? 8)

I have been liasing with a mod about this, was concerned that I was breaking rules as I had not yet had permission. I got told to carry on doing what I'm doing so thats what I'm gonna do!

tbh its getting very busy from just word of mouth, god knows how it would take off if we had a dedicated section!!

But yes we are very much up for keeping this going, the more spend the account gets, the better the discount I can give!
