E30 V8 - updates

Thanks mate, that was its first proper outing since doing the conversion.

Mmm I think it was around 10-12, they were lasting around 3-4 laps.
Although they were Contis and Pierllis, shite for drifting as they delaminte so fast.

What colour 32/33 where you in? Howd you get on?

Haha is always the way, I learnt in a E34 525, there super cheap and super good! Loads of lock!

Cant even remember if I have a build thread on this, couldnt spot it so anyway update on the car.

Last time I went drifting the cars temperature would creep up slowly so I decided to move the oil and powersteering coolers out of the way from the radiator and also drill lots of holes in the thermostat.

Here they are in their temporary positions, I need to make some new lines up so I can sit them a bit higher up as the oil cooler sticks out from under the front apron.

Iv been playing around with geometry on the front of the car and mainly to get it to stop rubbing on full lock, Iv fitted E46 wishbones, removed the anti roll bars too. At santa pod in november the car felt awful and after a mate gave me a few pointers from his 5 series I raised the front of the car about 2 inches. So it went from this

It may look gay as fuck but the difference was amazing, felt like i was driving a new car, the car nows feels floaty and I dont have to wrestle with it so much! And after looking at alot of competition bmws they all seem to have really really high front ride heights.
Also from raising the ride height the front wheels dont catch on the wings any more so they have gone back to normal too.
Iv recently bought some wide arches for the car which ill fit over the spring, so atleast my rear tyres wont rub like crazy with some of my wheels now.

Will update more once iv got the car in the garage at the moment iv driven it around to and from work over the winter so its in a bit of a state.

What topmounts are you using on the HSD's? Any problems with fit, finish and ride quality?

Hi dave, running the HSD topmounts, to be honest the quality of the kit is amazing, I know so many people now that run these on their bmws. As for what your getting they are near enough half the price of anything else.

Ride quality is fantastic, because I do santapod alot (very bumpy) I run mine near enough on full soft most of the time, this gives plenty of give on the road and pretty everybody who has been in my car is really surprised by them.

If you have the choice go for hsd! O and also main supplier dealer is uk based and on the phone!

Smart. Cheers Phill, that pretty much echos what else I've read about them.

So are your top mounts E36? I thought the mountings are different to E30, and from the photos I've seen, the HSD's have a fixed mounting for the three securing studs?

Yep e36 tops. Fitment is the same bar one bolt so you just need to redrill one hole in the turret, the bolt up job done!

Sorry to go off topic ,but are these drift days for the experienced or can you go as a novice to learn,
I really think i need some practice to get the most out of my e30.

No worries, Santapod is aimed at everyone, there are about 5-7 play pens, ranging from donut rings to a kidney track.
You can then go onto the big track (where my photos are taken)
If you can drive a well and understand basics of car control then you can easily head up on the big track all day, if not its the best place in the uk to learn!
