Just thought I'd update on my driving progress, following on from the "wet handling" post from a few weeks back....
well, I've broken through the fear of the wet, moved up the learning curve into the steeper section and now I'm really enjoying myself.
Every time it's wet I keep smiling and saying to myself "there's no way that a FWD hatch would ever be as much fun as this."
Once you know what you're looking for, drive reasonably smoothly and keep the power fed in on the corners, then it appears that the car can slice through pretty much any combination of mud and water.
The E30 continues to satisfy me.
Excellent.
ps: decent tyres are probably an important part of all this. I'm running 195/50/15 Eagle F1s.

Yes, it's been good running that size and F1s. When I first had them fitted then I noticed that the car "drifted" in the dry, more than I expected. I was actually a bit nervous for the first few days. I don't notice it any more! The good thing is that that's got me used to the tail of the car really quickly. With F1's being F1's the gap between dry and wet handling is much smaller than if I was running cheaper tyres or wider tyres. So wet weather is now just, say, a 25% extension into more drift rather than the massive gap when I had rubbish tyres on.

i have 205/45/17 with yokahama a539 on my IS an the difference between wet n dry is unreal
in teh dry the grip is superb, you have to really push it to even provoke the rear end to play with you
in the wet its like driving on slicks
how i crave f1's or pilots

I put those same Yoko's on my CRX a couple of years ago and found the same. They were dangerous in the wet.
Toyo's have impressed me most so far but I might try some F1's next time.
Good to see the old E30 doing what it does best Tom.

im quite happy with them for the moment cos i love grip as well as slide in the wet, plus im still not ultra confident in the wet so being able to practice easily is good
n e one ever driven on pilots? couple of my mates rate them over f1s?

I had a set of P6000's on my old 14"318is and they were superb.
Had a set of Yokohamas on my old Fiesta which were fantastic until it rained...... when they wore out (which didn't take long) I had Falkens which were just shite all the time.
I'm looking for a set for my 15"BBS when I've had them refurbed, but can't decide what to get.

Well I'm quite impressed with the Toyo T1-R's on my mates 350z, he could just floor it off a wet roundabout and the car didn't even get slightly sideways, that was with TC off too!
Cheers,
Robin

Eagle F1s, no contest for me.
Hmmm, are there many cars better than the E30 for driving satisfaction, combined with cheap maintence and practicality?
