(318i 1990 M40 engine)
Tried to change the thermostat last week because it was running to cold all the time, but I got an air lock and in frustration i put the old one back in, then i got some good advice on how to sort the air lock on this forum, which i then did.
So today i changed the old thermostat again, and put in a new one with what i learned last week, and this time no air lock and no overheating problems.
BUT now it wont idle and just dies when you get to a junction etc, what could i have done to get this problem?????
Changed the thermostat, now it wont idle

Mine didnt used to idle. I cleaned out the throttle body as it was dirty, and also the ICV. (at the back of the bay behind the manifold). Hope this helps, but im not sure that this would be related to the heating.

The heating problem is solved, the idle problem is new and unconected to the thermostat.

Could just be coincidence mate. As said above I'd try cleaning ICV and TB and see if that helps.

but it wont idle at all when cold, but when warmed up and coming to a stop the red dash lights flash for a second as the revs drop down and then stablises at 650-750 rpm.
so is it
1. ICV
2.TB
3. BLUE COOLANT SENSOR
i dont wont to make things worse by distubing the wrong bits.
