Just got quoted Ԛ£1350 for an iS, im 19 and kept gettin told by my local insurance companies (in Guernsey) that i was too young for them to cover me, but just got quoted the above price by adrian flux. To me it seems like a lot. But i am willing to pay it. But obviously id rather pay less, what other companies r worth a try?

When I was 19 my renewal price for my iS (1yr ncb 1 claim) was Ԛ£850, my first year at 18 with no ncb and 1 claim was Ԛ£1150 TPFT.
That was with Admiral.
Hope that helps!

I tried confused.com last week and helped a lot, they cover a large number, and gives you an ides of how much you should pay really
its worth trying, and free so won't do any harm...

Insurance is rediculous, when I was getting quotes for my renewal all the companies (including those listed on confused.com) were quoting more than what I paid a year previously and without a no claims bonus! Bloody rip off all round if you ask me.

Im 17 (in a few days!) and have just been quoted 1800 on my 1.8 lux. I was also quoted 4000, 3900 etc.
. The 1800 was norich union on the net, and i cant declare it has a mtech kit on it, as thers no option, and it doesnt say 'call if your cars modified'!. Does this make it worthles?

I wouldn't think so, if they don't mention modifications then it means it does not count for them, although it sounds strange as they do point out modifications as the spec change.
NOrwich Union ? hmmmmm, they did ask me -about modifications- when I asked for a quote, are you sure it does not ask you somewhere ?

Agreed on Adrian Flux, a must if you're under 25, I've been with them for the last 6 years, and have always been the cheapest, and I get a great service with them as I've been with them so long.
Currently paying Ԛ£474 on my M3, that's with 6 NCB and I'm 26.

the best thing to do is use confused.com / the autotrader thing then go direct to the cheapest company and get a new quote, sometimes works out a bit cheaper for some reason,bmwe30mtech wrote:I did iy on the autotrader insurance site thing, and no i didnt see it anywhere about modifications, not at all.JOSEMI wrote:I wouldn't think so, if they don't mention modifications then it means it does not count for them, although it sounds strange as they do point out modifications as the spec change.

Yer i know this isnt going ot be cheap, but hopefully second year will be way way less. Thanks, i will try that and see if it comes up cheaper. Quotes i got on phone were stupid. Up to 4500! They may as well tell me they think im going to crash!!

Ive found elephant to be by far the cheapest mainstream company Ive tried.
I'll probably try confused.com and adrian flux once I get a beemer.
Ԛ£1300 is obviously a lot of money but I know a 19 year old paying a grand for a micra which cost him Ԛ£250

Your quote sounds about right to me Willis! I had a 318is when i was 19 0ncb
and it cost me Ԛ£1275 that was with tescos insurance, i am now 20 and have a 325 and 1yrs ncb and i am paying Ԛ£1100 for it. To put things into perspective, my first car was a rover 218sld Turbo 'N' Plate (yes go on....snigger all you want
) IG:11 I paid Ԛ£1475 + a Ԛ£300 deposit with tesco
I was robbed i tell you... ROBBED!!

Insurance is silly money for the young, the amount ive paid out just to drive E30s and the like is quite a lot

iS seem quite expensive to insure; I'm paying Ԛ£50 more per year for a std 318iS over what I was paying for a stripped out Astra GTE with roll cage, bucket seats, twin 40s etc.
I pay around Ԛ£650 per year fully comp, 9 points (3 current), two minor claims in last 4 years.

phone the insurance company and change the vehicle to the new car.WilliS wrote:i did hav a fiesta but ive recently sold it, payed 600 insurance on that, but havent cancelled the insurance yet, if i cancel it wot happens to my no claims bonus? i dont really kno much about insurance and how it all works
your policy does not have to stay with the same car for 1 year. it could be 100 cars.

I phoned the company im with now and they said i was too young for them to insure me for a car in such a high insurance group, apparently they cant insure me for a car above group 10. Funny that cos my mate is still only 18 and is insured with the same company and he drives a charade gtti, which is group 11!!
So i cant just change car under the same company

I've held a full license for 18 months but ive had my insurance policy for 2 years, got the renewal notice in the post this week. So if i cancel my insurance with that company, what happens to my NCB?Unless you finish year you wont get the NCB, quite a bugger

you need to do a full year to earn NCB, all you can do is bite the bullet or tell a porky, which is not recommended.
who are you insured with at present? I think some companies are fussy if you live in the Channel Islands

when your policy ends ask them for a certificate of no claims.WilliS wrote:I phoned the company im with now and they said i was too young for them to insure me for a car in such a high insurance group, apparently they cant insure me for a car above group 10.
