Sorry Dudes, more help needed, please.......
I've got to the point of re-assembling now, and I've got the crank to TDC on no1 and no6 (can't find a timing mark in the crank!). There's what looks like a timing mark on the cam pulley and I've lined it up with a mark on the front of the head which looks like it's supposed to be there. (Still with me?)
With it set up like this, the valves on no1 are both closed, but no6 valves are both slightly open - this is worrying me a bit as no6 piston is right at the top of its stroke.
Have I got it right?? I need to be certain about this 'coz I don't want any more aggro (ie. bent valves/head off yet again) with this job, it's cost far too much already and taken a week too long as it is!
TIA
Stuart.

Had various discussions with Wor Lass, including getting it towed away as it is (that was Friday afternoon!), and the concensus is that we keep it and run it into the ground........
What WL doesn't know is that that will take more years than she's anticipating!
I'm cautiously optomistic about the rest of the job, I've just got to remember where everything goes.
I'm going to pass the increased performance due to the 325i TB I'm fitting as "Well Dear, it just shows how bad it was before I took the 'head off! You see....... I told you it had to be done!" :chuckle:

Good on ya Stuart
I'm working on my plan of how i explain the shiny 6 branch when it goes on  :P
Apologies if you were expecting an answer to yout problem though :-x

probably stating the obvious here Stuart but I take it you have seen the guide for strip/rebuild in the technical atricles section?

Link here http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... lhead1.htm

Don't know if that's any help mate?

Edit: - sorry I have just realised this does not help at all

Valves on no6 should both be slightly open at 1 and 6 TDC.
1 is on end of compression stroke and 6 is on the end of it's exhaust stroke.
bottom timing mark is a groone on the hub of the bottom pulley, that lines up with a small notch in the inner timing cover. Sounds like you've found the cam pulley marks.
