There are a few correct ways of doing a 24v swap mate tbh.
Depending what box you plan to use determines the prop and dif you will need ect.... Have a look in the m50-m52 section, all the answers are there :)

What do you mean by sticking with a 2.5 can cam it?

Cam a M20 or cam a M50?

Cam in a M20 gives a reasonable response and if your engine is healthy you may see 190bhp with other mods.

Cams in M50 will see it to about 220, but luck of the draw finding some cams, schrick cams are about £900.

It is the same effort to put a M52 in as it is to do the M50.

ye just seems soo much work for something that might not really be worth it ? as i always thought the 2.5 block was always good enough and also the vanos puts me off as its more hastle than its worth !

as the 2.5 is a basic head rebuild wich i have done one before, so i would rebuild a 2.5 and sling that it as its a 1.8 atm with the headgasket gone so i will be changing to something like the 2.5 or 2.8 if worthy

The 24v engine is in a different league to the M20 donks, OK they are not supercar quick, but a 2.8 M52 with M50 inlet and decent exhaust system in an E30 gives Porsche boxter performance.

Being realistic, you are going to end up spending £1k doing the conversion, more if your car needs suspension upgrades and other refurb items.
