With the bush tool and a 2 post lift its under an hours work, how anybody drives around with bushes like that I dont know, must be literally just pootling to the shops and back, any hardish corner and you instantly know the back end is floating around!

The ball joint will only have failed if the rubber boot was spilt open, NICE dampers

+1 for propping the back end up, new pads make so much difference because they are not compressed from sitting under the spring for 20+ years

Good efforts

l16ydl - its going to be up forsale as soon as i get it MOT'd the old one ran out yesterday. I'll drive it for a couple of weeks as there is rent in the window. I can make sure its pukka then or try.

Image
Started off with this mess, no welding is needed anywhere behind the dash so it can go back in

Image
Clipping all the lighting and OBC loom back in. Note leave plenty of slack the big white plug side!

Image
noice,

Image

Only one top mount had really gone pear shaped the drivers side was still intact, but we know standard mounts and anything lower than m-tech ride height will have thwm mullered in no time. The lemforder jobbies are for an e46 cab £10 minus your discount from GSF.

Image
As always when you tinker something else goes wrong, like the ABS keep pulsing when braking. So i cleaned all the sensors up. When i cleaned the drivers front the ABS light came on as soon as i moved off. So a duff sensor - why its just gone i don't know. A good spare was in stock and we're sorted!

Image
I've doubled them spring pads up, theres a large enough hump on the trailing arm that you can do this and the spring still locates properly so MOT man will be happy i hope

Image
All back together here, everything is there also, jack, chock,BBS spanner, wheel brace towing eye.

Image
The new stance, its lifted it a bit i think its worked chaps

Image
yesterdays "stance"

Image
looks about right? certainly drives right now, just need the tracking done on the front to be sure after the M3 bushes!

Image
a love making blind! 6 inch speaker holes though which isn't the end of the world.

Image
i bought these for a fiver on the bay and the cock packed them well innit. Both broken and f**ked. Helmet

Image
Someone whos had the car in the past believes an E30 needs more sound deadening! its in the boot too

Image
The bottom moment. My tip before you cut the headline is to fit the shelf and pull the blind up. Then poke the headline and you should feel the rectangle holes for it, cut a little X...........................

Image
Image
We're in business. I love these myself stops the minions peering in whilst commuting don't you know.

I have some rear headrests to fit. I bought a fitting kit of e30topless but i think we are onto 3 weeks now and no bloody kit. Steve get your finger out!

Hope that makes life easier

hole from mud flap! you couldn't see this until i took the bracket off holding the flap on.

Image
Image
Image
I pulled the square off as i could see it was creeping in on top of the jacking pad. Should i clean this up to be welded back on?

Image
Image
After a little poke, full of filler? Its had a plate welded in it looks to me. Must of had a small bump here in the past is my guess.

Took me ages to get this far!

Nice job Simon. I'm expecting similar when I pull the front arch liners out of the touring.

Leave the jacking pad off :D

Leave the factory jacking point off mate. It's the route of the problem in that area anyway. Matt left them off Pauls moordoor so that's good enough for me.

Funnily enough I just welded that exact same corner myself on my Touring (Sunday).

Will try to get a pic up tomorrow (photos still at home in my camera)

I've decided to leave the square factory thing off as well, but I may re-enforce the lip.

What a rust trap!!! couldn't believe BMW when I saw that.

coded bumpers and mirrors with full shadow line would finish this off a treat,i guess you could leave that option for the next owner to contemplate.

you gotta leave some room for a potential tinker i spose :D

Well today has been a good day all round, but we didn't get any welding action as he's ill. But no to wallow in fury at being let down we cracked on with other bits. But an interupted day meant not much

Image
Image

Last 2 bits to sort out. I can do the bung bit myself

Image
So i had a SE lip painted black, but now with a couple of coats of primer on it

Image
Now with some zinnobar red on it.

Image
Image
A bloody good match i think and with a polish to the bootlid it and the car will look spam. Now i didn't notice the bonnet badge on the boot, plus we are missing the "i" badge from the 325 bit. It council without so.....

Image
Sorted, will look noice with the zinnobar bumpers i've got.

Image
topless came good on the rear head restr kit. Everything to fit them!

Image
sweaty bit cutting the holes. You can feel the precut bits so you cut in the right place like on the rear blind so this comes first

Image
bolt the brackets in

Image
voila, some nice head rests from the scrappy and all fitted. For that excutive 80's look rear head rests!

Image
I was fearful of many holes to be lurking in here like normal

Image
All cleared out and a good poke found only 1 hole. Result. I've np picture just yet but you know its coming. So its all been caught at just the right time. Theres a lot of work here but i'm sure it can be cleaned up and protected to dramatically increase this arches life!

Image
A scabby but solid arch lip.

Image
A not so solid breather pipe cover! Aren't they all like this top one now? £27 for a new one from BMW now folks. Good spare from my 2dr pina found!

Image
Cleaned up these bits, solid filler neck to work with, few scabs but we can get this nice.

2moro should be less hectic and i can get some more done i hope. Clocks change in a week too!

and he was like a kid in a sweetie shop 8O

get the correct thickness panels, experiment some more and post up here for the guys to guide you. I am a rubbish teacher so much better off getting constructive criticism from guys that know!

I can probably do one evening this week and Saturday if you want help actually gluing the new metal to the car...

yeah those plates are great for initial learning, just remember thinner metal is not quite so forgiving! Just make sure you are no where near the 2 door

The 2 door was laughing at this being put next to it! Said your 3 years too late son no holes in me now.

Image
Powelly gave me this new wing to play with but it doesn't fit :?

Image
its made here the butt of many jokes. Does anyone actually know what Jap sh!t box its off? Kia was my thought

Image
I played with some different wire settings, the 1-2-3-4-5-6 switch and wire speed.

Image
Image
To me this seemed ok? or in the right direction. this was wire speed 3 and the amp set to 3.

Image
Image
Image
i kept the wire speed the same and dropped the amps to 2.

Image
oh dear, blew a big hole. Did it get way too hot? i tried to tack it and join them all up.

Image
Image
Not one to give up i got to this stage, with some filler and a grind down you'd never know.......

Mucho fun but some more practice i think :o:
