The clutch is on its way out in my girlffirends mini cooper '05. When warm the clutch judders in traffic. Its done 80,000 miles.
We've been shopping around for prices and its not cheap. A local garage quoted £720, BMW mini quoted £649 and Mr. Clutch is quoted either £415 if its the old style or £519 if its new style. (changed in 05 apparently)
If it was me I would pay the small amount extra and go with mini and have the approved parts fitted, car cleaned, courtesy car etc but I said i'd do some research for her.
Does anybody know what manufacturer of clutch to look out for / avoid on Minis? Mr Clutch said they wont use a clutch from Mini and would use either LUK or Sachs clutch. Are either of those any good? I think I've heard talk of a Sach's clutch on here. any advise welcome
Thanks
Mini Clutch

Ive fitted a sachs clutch to a mini cooper before, drove spot on straight after and the customer hasnt had a problem ever since.
Its up to you mate, alot of people go for OEM parts because you know they will last a while longer than cheap imitations..but sachs are a good make and at the end of the day all depends on how you drive the car

I think Sachs is OE on Mini anyway. If you went BMW-Mini you'd get the same but for 3 times the price
. And I'd do that job for a lot cheaper then them Garages are charging lol!
and if you want the job done good, do not go Mr. Clutch! They are rip off merchants ask any Mechanic about them. I've heard they use there own clutches too. My advice would be to go to Euros buy a Sachs clutch and find a good Mechanic through a friend or something

AVOID mr clutch!
The BMW one will have a 2 year parts warranty as well which would include the labour to change it again if it failed due to a part defect.
That goes for all genuine BMW parts.

I think that's settled it, thanks. It'll be going to Mini.
After asking this question i had a chat to my dad who used to own a courier company. He sent one of his vans to Mr Clutch for an emergency clutch replacement as his mechanic couldn't do it and he said he had nothing but hastle. Shortly after the gearbox leaked oil and Mr Clutch didn't want to know. It may not have been anything to do with them but they were very unhelpful.
