My understanding is that there is space in the accessories socket behind the glove box to facilitate remote central locking to be fitted to any E30.
My only thoughts on your question would be that it would probably be easier and quicker to source a new remote locking kit (a company called Right Click have been mentioned a few times on here) and fit that, rather than trying to strip old stuff out of one car and into another.

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is
Can replacement barrels be ordered as before i brought the car some body tried to break in and knackered the drivers door and lock so i thought i might swap the lock set over but by the sounds of it Right Click is the way forward. If replacement barrels can be ordered it would make my life a whole lot easier

Replacement barrels readily available. They come as a repair kit, that allows you to build it up to match your existing key.
Comes with the L shaped alloy piece that fits on the back, and is usually well worn.
