Thanks to the wonders of modern, computerized MOT certification (all free), I have just discovered the following:
2006: 81,987 Miles
2007: 86,117 Miles
2008: 84,962 Miles
2009: 85,311 Miles
2010: 86,168 Miles
2011....In June...
...not a disaster, as, since September I have had extensive work done to the car, had many very able mechanics look her over, and so a dodgy mileage isn't going to have me shi**ing my pants...
what'cha reckon? wound back clock or a set of new clocks dropped in during 2007? The speedometer/ododmeter was broken when I bought her (and is due to be fixed next time I run into a pot of money) so the mileage right now reads approx 86,596 Miles
...I got her from some shifty layabout in Essex...should I be surprised? probably not....

It's hardly like they knocked of 100,000 miles is it ?
If you're going to clock a car to sell it on you do it with a high miler in the first place. I wouldn't worry at all.

These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....

would like to see mine, its at 170k, id be surprised if it was clocked
...you can check it here with registration number and V5c number.
...thanks for putting my mind at ease, knocking off ~2000 miles does seem a bit pointless....I guess its just had a tempermental cluster all its life.
...on an unrelated note...just watched the Wheeler Dealer boys restore a 1970's Fiat 500.....those guys are the dogs bollo**s.
Here's mine
Date of test:
20/01/2006
127,738 Miles
Date of test:
12/01/2007
125,088 Miles
Date of test:
14/01/2008
125,224 Miles
Date of test:
27/01/2009
125,241 Miles
Also from 2007-2009 it did less than 300 miles.

In the late 90's I imported several bmw Z1s, and funded university on the profit.
I changed the clocks to MPH on all of them and supplied the old clocks with the cars.
THE MAJORITY had had the clocks opened and the green paint was broken at the back.
It seems clocking occurs in Germany and on cars of that era.
Always check the interior condition. Some of the expensive E30/Z1 dealers will ask OTT money for their cars based on their reputation, but I have doubted cars with low mileage that have needed interior work. Or low mileage cars with saggy seats. Z1s have a shagged interior at around 60000 miles but not before.
I doubt the mileage of an over priced Tech 1 out there for sale. Don't know why but it is just my gut feeling.

Those aren't clocked! No one goes to that sort of trouble to knock off 2 -3 %.
Most likely explanation is that the cluster has been replaced and those were the clusters closest to the correct mileage they could find.

My thoughts exactly.Brianmoooore wrote:Those aren't clocked! No one goes to that sort of trouble to knock off 2 -3 %.

I've got a white faced cluster in mine, totally not standard, and the odometer is obviously wrong. Would I be breaking the law if I tried to set it to a more accurate figure?

I'd like to think you're right!harry_p wrote:More likely that the tester accidently hit the 6 instead of the 3 on the number pad when entering the mileage In 2007 and didn't notice.
only if they have an mot test number or the number off your V5Cypriotgeeza wrote:So i guess insurance companies can see if your going over your mileage alowance these days...
That website is really useful though, just had a read through the list of previous mot failures on mine.
