I'm no 'puter expert, but , if the above is correct, shouldn't
this have been fairly simple to pick up and a warning given?

No offence Rob, but the Mods can't "warn" someone not to rip someone else off, or demand a refund for them.
Matching IP addresses is certainly a suspicion, but it is by no means conclusive either as several users could legitimately have the same IP address. Particularly if it is assigned automatically by the ISP (internet Service Provider). Definitely interesting that both match though.

Every user has a unique ISP IP address, look at them like door numbers, what is the postman gonna do? If this speedyreidy is bringing back the same IP as steve taylor its most definately him. Its like DNA. You can change your ISP IP but for the chances of someone doing that and coincidently matching that of stevetaylors previous IP is... Well... Ill let u do the math.

None taken Gordon, and i take your point, but if ,as in this case,Gortour wrote:No offence Rob, but the Mods can't "warn" someone not to rip someone else off, or demand a refund for them.

an IP address is shared by two or more users names, then they
should both be banned from selling until the matter is at least looked into. Iirc, there was a case of this recently, happily
both users were genuine.

I understand your IP is automatically assigned for your system but by banning the IP address they are using should ban the whole network from every regaining access to this site taking into account your server settings pick up there ISP IP address then it would, if not the user would be able to constantly switch his static IP from 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.255 (ish), this would mean they would still have access unless banned a further 254 times on each IP. Correct me if im wrong? and im not trying to educate anyone here just stating. This is to my understanding right, ive been banned in the past from various different sites messing about as a youth and trying to access the same site from a different computer is a no go, because it bans your main IP, a good way of checking for yourself is whatever computer your on (better if you have 2 or more) go to www.whatismyipaddress.com and i lay money on it each one will be the same because thats your ISP IP.

On most home broadband systems, IP addresses are allocated from a pool owned by the ISP every time you re-connect or at the expiry of your "lease" of that IP address.
I'm afraid all that can be categorically said from two zoners having the same IP address is that they use the same ISP.
If the posts from the same IP were separated by some days or weeks, it's not likely to be conclusive or even suspicious.
If they had the same IP address at the same time, they are at least posting from the same router - could be in different offices of the same company or even different rooms of the same house.
If they regularly have the same address, there must be a link.
Moza, you're confusing an IP address which is an internet address - where hundreds of people using the same router connection to the internet can all show up as the same IP address and additionally the address you used yesterday can be assigned to somebody else today - with MAC addresses which are unique to a particular network card in a PC - though software exists to make it look as though you are using a different MAC address.

My ISP address will not change and hasn't changed for years unless I change it myself, its static, I know exactly what your saying but if that's the case how are you ever going to ban someones IP surely we will all be banned or banned before we even signed up, going by your explanation?

That's the point.
IPs assigned by DHCP mean nothing without further investigation. The one you were logged as posting from yesterday could now be being used perfectly legitimately by any other user at your ISP.
50 (or 500) folk working in an office with a static IP address on their router will all post from the same IP address.
Of itself, the IP address logged means nothing.
Observing patterns may tell you something, but two users posting from the same IP address may mean absolutely nothing. The only link between them could simply be that they live in the same area and use the same ISP.

The same IP from an ISP is never given out twice.
EDIT: After further bit of reading it seems you can end up with the same ISP IP, wow. Anyone got a figure on the chances someone on this forum could end up with it, and also try ripping people off aswell. I think thats all the evidence you need really TBH, im only a youngen :p, thanks for shining some light on this situation for me tho it helps to be in the know!
