I took the pipe between the air flow meter and the engine ( pipe needs replacing as its falling apart) and it was swimming in oil. Im no mechanic but I know that aint right.
Any ideas what the problem is and how I might cure it?

Thanks in advance.

I havnt got the pipe yet, are they expensive? I saw a pic on this site of someones engine bay with a Samco hose on there, is that a straight swap as its a bend with a t-piece on.

2 mins job. The setalers were generous and got it for around Ԛ£8 from them ! I thought that being rubber and all that it was best to get it new. It is very simple to change:
Unscrew both sides
Remove the t-pipe on the side
Pull the old pipe out
Clean the area now you are hands on
And the same in reverse.

I've just answered your other post, and see that this post confirms my answer!
The pipe isn't particulary expensive - around Ԛ£10 mark IIRC.
Take the last seven characters of your VIN to your local BMW dealer, and they should come up with the correct pipe in 24 hours if not in stock.
The best intake system for an E30 with a standard engine is the one it came with. Leave the induction kits to the Saxo boys.

What would I do without you! lol
Ill give BMW a bell later to see if they have got one. It will be handy next year because BMW are moving to 30 seconds away from my work :D

I only tried the induction kit as I had it laying around.
