iv been considering in upgrade the engine in my 320i convertible to either a low miliage 2.5 or a 2.7. I prefer goin the 2.7 route but i dont want to spend time in biulding one from scratch. i been trying to source a 2.7 engine (alpina/hartge), but no luck. can you guys recommend places where i can try?

you are probably gonna struggle to buy a 2.7 ready to just drop in mate. Half the zone probably wouldn't mind one. Usual process is getting the bits needed to do a 2.7.
Best to do a search as this is a very common question. i.e. "how do i create a 2.7?"

Throw in a good 2.5 and modify it. You wont be far behind the 2.7's I can assure you!

I was hoping you wern't going to say that. Iv read a few posts in the engine swap threads. It sounds very complex for me, I've never done any engine work in my life i wouldn't know where to start.
an engine swap isn't really hard providing you have the right tools and a hoist me and a mate changed his 2.5 lump a few months ago we only have basic engine knowledge and it only took us a weekend i think the only other thing you have to change is the ecu and maybe the diff if you going from 320iSilverShadow wrote:I was hoping you wern't going to say that. I met this guy at Ace Cafe. He knows what he talking about.
I went in another car he turbo's and it was insanely quick. The owner of the other car I sat in said this 2.7 thing made his one feel like it was going backwards.
Someone on here should serioulsy consider this.

Im confident in the actual engine swap. Iv helped my uncle in swaping knackerd engines on a Rover and a VW. I know its not the same thing, but i have some know how in doing it. it is the actual 2.7 coversion that im concerned about. At the moment my 320 is running on a 3.91 lsd that i had changed over last year. your right about changing over the ECU. [/quote]
