After installing the M52 engine in to my 325i,
i'v came to a halt at the final hurdle..

i have no spark and no fuel getting to the plugs,

ignition on,
fuel pump primes,
relay's & EWS clicks,
ICV is buzzing away...

But on cranking there is no fuel or spark,
I have been over my wiring with a fine tooth comb,
undone all the connections I had originally made and redone them to make sure they were all good,
and the're spot on

The top and bottom of it is I think the EWS is at fault,

weird thing is tho...

3 days ago, it started, revved and idled,

I switched it off, had a clean up,
gathered up all the wires, made them nice and neat across the bulkhead ,
went to start it again, and thats when the spark and fuel died??

so me and a mate have been over EVERYTHING again and again and again
and the only thing I can think of,

is get the ECU, KEY and EWS tested somehow

So who is closest who would do me a MASSIVE favour,
and plug my ecu and ews in to their E30 M52 just to test to see if it works :D

Does your main EWS module click when you go to start the car? You should be able to hear it and even feel it if you hold the module while turning the key to the run position. No spark/fuel sounds like the EWS stopping you from starting the car. If you don't have the module clicking then that's your problem.

My only other guess is the main and fuel pump relays. Can you jump the fuel pump relay and get the pump to run? Do you have any extra relays you could test with?

The fuel pump works,
I can hear it prime when the ignition is on,

It's only when it's cranking there is no fuel getting to the plugs...

if you can get it to spark on crank you can run a live from another relay on the engine loom to the fuel pump that stays live when cranking and bypass everything ?

I don't know anymore mate, I'm sick to the back teeth,
If there is a problem with either the
ECU, key, ring, ring box, EWS box,

I'll have to replace the lot

There's nowt wrong with your ECU or the EWS mate

Just connected all your stuff to my car and it fired straight away and idled perfect, revs up without any issues either, so you can rule that lot out.

Seems your problem must be with the wiring on your car

I dont mate,
Lee's just mentioned that i should try that aswell,

so i'll pull it out tomorrow and see whats occurring,

i might just get a new one to be on the safe side,

(would that stop both fuel and spark if it's a bit iffy??)

I hope it is just that, dont think i could take much more of this,

I should of stayed with the 2.7,

there was nothing wrong with it

Safe to say it's fuked!!

I'v checked the other side that connects to this mess and the wires are perfect,

So do we think this was like that when i bought the engine?

or is it something to do with the wiring i have done?

Could have been like that mate and was just on borrowed time.

Sadly, for the 24v lumps, crank and cam sensors are almost a service item. If you do ever buy new then I would recommend you only buy from BMW, the ebay specials are often crap and continue to cause running problems and fault codes to appear. I think I paid about £70 for my brand new cam sensor and that was about 2 years ago, so I bet they are more now.

I'm running on a 2nd hand crank sensor I got from Dan

^^True

When I dissected it, it looked like old burnt wires and not like it had been done recently,
so like you say it could of been on its last legs, and my superior wiring just helped it along a bit :D

I'll run the one that I'm getting off Dan for a bit and see if that works ok without melting it's self..

Dan send me your paypal or however you want some sort of payment and I'l get some coinage to you fella

Right..

Got the ECU and EWS stuff back from Lee t'utha day, cheers fella,

also received the Crank position sensor of Dan today

Plugged everything back in,
turned the key,
Fuel pump primed,
relays clicked,
EWS clicked,
Spun over freely off the starter
and spun
and spun
and spun

But.....................

Still the same,
no fuel getting to the plugs
and
still no spark
