Is there ways that this can be done by tinting the lights or will it just look shite with the finish>

I did mine diy and have to say was very happy with the way they turned out but taking your time and doing lots of fine sprays is the key. Although I will say, a few years on the red seems to have faded and so the orange on the indicators is starting to show through more - but then I didn't laquer afterwards.J4CK05EE30 wrote:these can be diy'd but need to do it in small doses at a time...

The price in the ebay link does seem very good though and could well be worth it in the long term.

Very easy to do a DIY set with good results. Buy a can of good quality red tint (I used e-tech), then mask the areas you need to spray, then gradually build up the red spray to match the rest of the light.
The key is the prep. Make sure the lights are 110% clean using White spirits , heat the lens up with a hair dryer (wipe afterwards as the hair dryer can make it dusty), leave the can on the radiator and finally leave a hot lamp over the lenses after paint application.
I was very impressed with the outcome and if your very careful with the masking and build up if paint you would have to be massively OCD to have an issue with the results.

That's a pretty awesome tip right there, it's one of the reasons i was undecided about doing all red rear lights.MurphyE30 wrote:that is correctleeparkes wrote:Thanks, ive just brought some.

Looks like another thing to add to the "to do" list.

It's a great tip that does not work, putting green bulbs behind a red lens will only result in a dimmer red light.
The only way to get annoyance flash is to not paint the entire orange bit, thus mask of stripes in the same way an e34/39 does with the reverse light.

Green bulbs dont work, just use normal bulbs, I did and never had any issues at MOT time, its clear flashing indicators they dont like, not red

I tinted my rear lights using the etech tint spray in red, i left the reverse light as i thought it looks more o.e.m spec then all red, when i first did it i used normal clear bulbs which flashed red as did the amber ones so i used l.e.d.s that flashed yellow they worked perfect through the red but only on the hazard lights flashed at normal speed as soon as i indicated tbey flashed too fast as if a bulb was popped so i got my clear bulbs and got some green glass paint from the local arts and craft shop and painted the clear bulbs green 3 coats later i put them in the lights and presto!! they do flash orange through the red, green nail varnish didnt work so well but the green glass paint does!
heres a before pic

and after

And ofcourse the green painted bulbs
