if you have either german font or german badge then be prepared for grief and fines.

the only uk legal pressed plates have a bs marked reflective background and standard uk font with an optional eu flag with either EU or GB under it.

i got the mrs some uk font non badged plates for her golf and they look good, i wouldnt bother with stupid fonts, false badges etc, it's all just a bit too 10 years ago :?
cheers,

harry

do they pull you for having the german state badges on ? think it will be regular ?

i dont want any gb flag or anything on there, ideally want plain pressed plates with no post code or anything and the 2 little german badges in the middle

i can't remember tbh, i'm a bit fussy about these things too so would have noticed if it was big. i'll try and dig out some photos.

again, you need the postcode to stay 100% legal, without it any coppa can give you a £30 fine and rectification notice, although they'd have to be pretty jobsworth to stop you for that alone.
cheers,

From experience and what I've seen/heard as long as you don't have the german badging on there and the backing is reflective you will be fine.

Had a community support officer um and ah about my 100% legal pressed plates, saying I might get pulled for them. I was trying to be as polite as possible but what do you say when 'these plates conform completely to BSAU145D' is met with 'but they don't look right'... if this were a proper copper would I have had to take the fine then appeal it? What a load of rubbish.

although you could claim they are years old and that way theres nafall they can do,if they were fitted before current law changes which i beleive was something like 1995 then they wont really have much to say, just say its an old car on old plates, didnt want to change the character of it but if you say i must officer,i will........

how long did you have them ?

i spose its also where you live, in the last 12 months, ive maybe been pulled twice - and thats at 3am on way home from work with bored cops wondering what i was doing at that hour in a black bmw

and not often i can recall even having police follow me

i might chance it and go for some pressed with badges

ive found the times i have been pulled over in my e30 or my xr3..neve for speeding or any issues like lights etc, just random.,the traffic cops do appriciate a nice clean classic, not many of these around, thats a nice clean one, etc ! ..so coz im not a chavvy boy racer in a clapt out counciled up heap, i might be able to say well theyve been on here years and since ive had it and its a loved classic car ,..would have to be a right coont to dish out a £30 fine for that alone i feel , might chance it

I must say though, if i lived out of London i wouldn't do half the things i do whilst on the road.
The MET imo are to busy and too used to cocky little street rats giving them the verbal to give me, a polite 'yes officer no officer' kind of guy any problems.

i use these Carl:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT

as long as the letters/numbers are the correct dimensions and spacing you are ok.
you can pick different colour borders and your own slogan, flag, badge, etc

I never know why they give me a tug Polsta.

Adit is right, providing the plates reflect in the correct manner, letters/numbers are the correct size and the gaps are correct the law can't do 5hit
